A Classic Story... Or Is It?
The show drops you right into the action. The martial arts world is a mess. A group called the Power Faction is running things. Another sect, the Waterway Sect, controls the rivers. The government is weak, and the emperor has fled the capital.
Into this chaos comes the legendary Hero's Order. Whoever holds it can unite the entire martial world. It's currently in the hands of General Wu Zhe's mother. Naturally, every ambitious fighter is after her. Just when she’s cornered, a young hero named Xiao Qiushui from the Huanhua Sword Sect swoops in to save the day.
But hold on. None of that was real.
The Real World (Sort Of)
We learn this epic scene is just a daydream. The real hero is Xiao Mingming, a regular guy who loves writing martial arts stories. He's creating the character of Xiao Qiushui. He decides to make his hero an absolute prodigy. At eighteen, this fictional Xiao Qiushui gets secret skills from the master Yan Kuangtu. He also gets a "Boiling Blood Cocoon" planted inside him.
By twenty, the fictional Xiao Qiushui finds a legendary book called the Wangqing Tianshu. He masters its techniques and becomes the leader of the martial arts world. It's the perfect power fantasy.
Then, his computer zaps him. He's now living inside his own book as his overpowered character, Xiao Qiushui.
A Rude Awakening
At first, he's thrilled. He finds out he just took down a few illegal gambling dens. The owners are now on their way for revenge. He isn't worried. He's a martial arts genius, right?
He tries to make a cool entrance by jumping from the second floor. He face-plants. Hard.
Luckily, his older sister, Xiao Xueyu, shows up. She’s the real deal. She easily handles the thugs and drags him home to face their father, Xiao Xilou.
Meeting the Family
His father is furious. Xiao Qiushui quickly realizes he's the least favorite son. His sister tries to cover for him. She says he was secretly investigating spies from the Northern Wasteland Army.
His two older brothers, Xiao Kaiyan and Xiao Yiren, aren't buying it. They want to teach him a lesson. Before they can, their mother, Sun Huishan, steps in.She takes the cane, gives him one light tap, and he wisely pretends it's agony and bolts.
Later, he has a chat with his mom. He asks her how his skills stack up against Li Chenzhou of the Power Faction. She warns him to stay away from that group. He also asks if the great master Yan Kuangtu has unlocked his potential. She tells him Yan Kuangtu has been missing for years and that he needs to be more realistic. He also finds out that his awesome sister, Xiao Xueyu, is adopted.
A New Set of Rules
Xiao Qiushui remembers a key detail from his own story. The powerful Wangqing Tianshu manual is hidden in his family's Sword Tomb. He rushes over and finds a stone coffin. He pries it open, but there are only a few swords inside.
The coffin lid slams shut. A screen appears in front of him. It's the "Demon Codex Interaction System." The system tells him he's strayed from the original novel this world is based on, Shenzhou Qixia.
He complains. How is he supposed to be a hero without any special advantages? The system offers a deal. If he can become the leader of his family's sect, the Huanhua Sect, the world will follow his overpowered plot. Until then, the system will give him quests in the form of "brocade pouches" to guide him.
His first quest is to challenge the Gold and Silver Bank. He panics. In his story, this event gets his entire family killed. He decides to run away and hide in the mountains to skip this part. But the Boiling Blood Cocoon in his body flares up, and he passes out.
He wakes up the next day back in his bed. It seems the system just reset the day. As he watches the other disciples train, he sees three familiar faces. It's his college buddies: Tang Xu, Deng Zhe, and Li Chaofan. He assumes they were transmigrated too. But as they talk, he realizes they are actually his character's friends from this era: Zuoqiu Chaoran, Tang Rou, and Deng Yuhan.
