Plot Synopsis
So,picture this: Bai Xiyue (Bai Xi-yue), a seriously scheming stepsister from the Shangshu household, is all kinds of conniving. She offed her own sister, Bai Xiyao (Bai Xi-yao), seduced Lord Yun Yichen (Yun Yi-chen), and clawed her way to the topto become empress. But karma's a you-know-what, and she kicks the bucket at her coronation ceremony,poisoned no less!
But hold on, because that's just the appetizer. She gets a do-over! Rebowith all her memories intact, she's now Bai Xiyao, the sister she originally murdered. Talk about awkward family reunions! Now she's gotta deal with a younger, nastier version of herself throwing all her old tricks right back in her face. It's all about staying alive, trying to make upfor herpast sins, and navigating a whole heapof romantic drama.
Here's a taste of what's going down episode by episode:
Episode 1:Bai Xiyao gets double-crossed by her hubby, Yun Yichen, who falls for Bai Xiyue's charms. She gets framed and dies, but not before cursing Bai Xiyue to high heaven. Bai Xiyue, meanwhile, isplaying 4D chess, consolidatingpower, marrying Yun Yichen, and becoming empress. But BAM! She dies. Turns out she's actually a fallen fairy named Bai Hong (Bai Hong), sent back to earth to get her act together. She wakes upas Bai Xiyao with all her memories of being Bai Xiyue. Confused yet?
Episode 2:Bai Hong is now Bai Xiyao, and she's having a serious change of heart. She remembers how Bai Xiyue ruined her life and is ready to tuthe tables. She sees Bai Xiyue still upto no good, manipulating their dad, Bai Wenli (Bai Wen-li), and Aunt Mei (Mei Yi-niang). Bai Xiyao starts exposing Bai Xiyue's schemes, but she's also gotta deal with the karmic debt from herpast life. She gets guidance from a celestial master and tries to atone for her sins.
Episode 3:Yun Yichen, now thePrince Yi, shows upat the Bai household looking for his childhood sweetheart, "Little Bai." Bai Xiyao is not thrilled. Turns out Bai Xiyuepretended to be "Little Bai" in thepast, which is why Yun Yichen was forced to marry Bai Xiyao and hates her. On their wedding day, Yun Yichen gets attacked, and Bai Xiyao gets her face scarred saving him. Bai Xiyue sees this as an opportunity to take herplace.
Episode 4:Yun Yichen brings gifts to thank Bai Xiyao for taking care of him as a kid, but she doesn't want them, worried it'll mess with Bai Xiyue's marriageprospects. The sisters have a serious showdown. Yun Yichen notices a sachet Bai Xiyao drops and gets suspicious. Back at hisplace, his advisor, Tao Yu (Tao Yu), suggests he investigate the Bai family. Meanwhile, Bai Xiyao offers Bai Xiyue a deal: if she wins a chess game, Bai Xiyao will helpher marryPrincePei Yan (Pei Yan), but in return, Bai Xiyue has to helpher investigate the betrayal of Lian Xin (Lian Xin).
Episode 5:Bai Xiyao, remembering herpast life as Bai Xiyue, knows Bai Xiyue is desperate to get into thepalace and win overPei Yan. Bai Xiyao becomes the Empress Dowager's favorite, which boosts her status. In herpast life, Bai Xiyao was miserable after marrying Yun Yichen, andPei Yan wanted to run away with her. But she knew he had a duty to become the emperor, so she turned him down. Meanwhile, Bai Xiyue isplotting with Lian Xin to reveal Bai Xiyao's secrets and steal her chance at becoming empress.
Episode 6:Bai Xiyao is helping thepoor in a slum when some thugs try to steal food. Lian Xin suddenly stabs her! Turns out Lian Xin isn't after Bai Xiyao, but is seeking revenge for her brother, who was killed by the Bai family. Bai Xiyao realizes Bai Xiyue has been manipulating Lian Xin.
Episode 7:Bai Xiyao tells Lian Xin the truth is with the old steward, Uncle Gui (Gui Shu). An assassination attemptputs Bai Xiyao and Lian Xin in danger, but Yun Yichen and Tao Yu save them. Lian Xin reveals that Tao Yu is her long-lost brother, who was saved by Yun Yichen as a child. Lian Xin's hatred fades, and Yun Yichen takes Bai Xiyao home. He reveals that her sachet is their token of love, but Bai Xiyao doesn't want to rehash thepast.
Episode 8:Bai Xiyao is helping Lian Xin write letters to Zhao (Zhao), a scholar. Yun Yichen finds out about the letters and thinks Bai Xiyao is having an affair. He locks her upfor disloyalty. Zhao rescues her, but she finds out Lian Xin has betrayed her and is working with Bai Xiyue. Lian Xin tries to kill Bai Xiyao, who escapes but is blinded bypoison and ends upon the streets.
Episode 9:Weird stuff is happening in thepalace kitchen. Bai Xiyao and Yun Yichen investigate and findpoisoned rats. They suspect someone is trying to controlpeople in thepalace. Bai Xiyao realizes it's connected to herpast life when she used the samepoison to control Yun Yichen and helpPei Yan become emperor.
Episode 10:At the Empress Dowager's birthday banquet, Bai Xiyao impresses everyone with her musicalperformance. The Empress Dowager rewards her with a house andpraises her humility. Bai Xiyue is jealous.
Episode 11:In herpast life, Bai Xiyuepretended to be drugged byPrincePei Si (Pei Si), butPei Yan stoppedPei Si from assaulting her. In this life,Pei Si still has the hots for Bai Xiyue, but Bai Xiyao switches the drinks, and Yun Yichen accidentally gets drugged. Bai Xiyao reluctantly saves him, remembering how she wronged him in herpast life.
Episode 12:Yun Yichen confronts Bai Xiyao about thepoison. In herpast life, Bai Xiyao (as Bai Xiyue) used thepoison to control Yun Yichen. In this life, Bai Xiyue meets the Emperor and gets his attention. She gets thepoison from Aunt Mei andplans to use it onPei Yan. Yun Yichen eventually realizes Bai Xiyue is behind everything.
Episode 13:In herpast life, Bai Xiyao's marriage to Yun Yichen was arranged, but they were distant. Yun Yichen loved Bai Xiyue, who didn't want to sleepwith him and tricked Bai Xiyao into taking herplace. Yun Yichen found out and forced Bai Xiyao to take a drug topreventpregnancy. In this life, Yun Yichenpretends to be weak and asks the Emperor to let him marry Bai Xiyue.Pei Yan objects, wanting Bai Xiyao for himself.
Episode 14:Bai Xiyao refuses to marry Yun Yichen, making Bai Xiyue happy. Bai Wenli explains it's a strategy to delay the marriage. Bai Xiyao asks the Empress Dowager to intervene. Yun Yichen learns that Bai Xiyao'spersonality changed after she fell in the water and that she's afraid of him. Bai Xiyao asks the Empress Dowager to call off the engagement, saying she'll serve her for life and give upher marriage toPei Yan to Bai Xiyue.
Episode 15:Bai Xiyao and Lian Xin discuss Yun Yichen's marriageproposal. Bai Xiyao is against it. Yun Yichen invites Bai Xiyao to meet him to clear upthe misunderstanding about the engagement. Bai Xiyao's father wants her to marryPei Si to improve the family's status.Pei Yan learns his mother's death wasplotted by his father.
Episode 16:Yun Yichen and Bai Xiyao's marriage is tense. Bai Xiyue sabotages the wedding dress to cause conflict. She gets into thepalace and becomes Consort Hui. Yun Yichen is still hung upon Bai Xiyue. Bai Xiyue uses thepoison to seduce the Emperor.
Episode 17:Bai Wenli is questioned byPei Si because Bai Xiyao entered thepalace, upsetting the Empress Dowager. Consort Li stopsPei Si from hitting Bai Wenli. Bai Wenli hadpromised Consort Li that he would have Bai Xiyao marryPei Yan to helphim become emperor.
Episode 18:As Bai Xiyao's wedding toPrince Yi approaches, family conflicts intensify. Bai Xiyao and Lian Xinplot to spread rumors aboutPrince Yi and Bai Xiyao to mislead Bai Xiyue. Bai Xiyao was saved by Yun Yichen when she fell into the water.
Episode 19:Bai Xiyue asksPei Yan to helpher stopher sister from marryingPrince Yi. Consort Li feels threatened by Bai Xiyao. Bai Xiyao suggests marryingPrince Yi and supportingPei Yan to change the Bai family's fate.
Episode 20:In herpast life, Bai Xiyue used thepoison to control the Emperor and had an affair withPei Yan. In this life, Bai Xiyao and Yun Yichen are growing closer. Bai Xiyue also seducesPei Yan, who tries to force himself on Bai Xiyao. She tells him she's marrying Yun Yichen, and he lets her go. Yun Yichen is jealous thatPei Yan brought Bai Xiyao back.
Episode 21:Yun Yichen returns injured and asks the Emperor to call off the wedding, but the Emperor refuses. Yun Yichen goes to his family home to discuss using military force to control the capital. Bai Xiyao accompanies him. Meanwhile, Bai Xiyue is jealous of Bai Xiyao and wants to take everything from her.
Episode 22:Yun Yichen tells Bai Xiyao a dream about theirpast and future. Bai Xiyao is scared but decides to stay with him. Bai Xiyue tries to kidnapBai Xiyao but triggers a soul collision. Bai Xiyao realizes she's the one in charge of her destiny and that Bai Xiyue is apart of her. Yun Yichen successfully rebels and kills the Emperor.
Episode 23:Bai Xiyue learns that Bai Xiyao has to resolve her relationshipwith Yun Yichen to get rid of her karmic fire. Bai Xiyao and Bai Xiyue get their own bodies back. Bai Xiyao reveals the wedding is a trapto kill Yun Yichen and stabs him. Bai Xiyue tries to stopher. Meanwhile, the Emperor dies in thepalace, andPei Si tries to usurpthe throne. Bai Xiyue is forced to become empress and exposes Consort Li's crimes.
Episode 24:Bai Xiyao has thepower of rebirth and has gone through three lifetimes with Yun Yichen. Bai Xiyue accidentally swaps consciousness and becomes Bai Xiyao's replacement. Bai Xiyue tries to use her fairypowers to control Bai Xiyao, but they swapconsciousness again and fall unconscious. Yun Yichen saves them and realizes Bai Xiyao is not Bai Xiyue. Bai Xiyao and Yun Yichen decide to spend the rest of their lives together. Bai Xiyue goes crazy.
