"My Doctor" Episode 14 Recap: Saying Goodbye... Or Not?

So, the big, gloomy cloud hanging over everyone this episode is the news that the entire neighborhood, community hospital included, is getting demolished. Yep, you heard that right. Our beloved medical team is facing the harsh reality of being scattered to the winds, and everyone's scrambling to figure out their next move.

Let's break down where our faves are at:

  1. Zhang Jun has made a pretty big decision: he's planning to pack up and head back to his hometown with his daughter, Yi Yi. But, in a sweet dad-moment, he realizes Yi Yi is growing up and deserves a say. So, he’s giving her time to think it over. If she’s not on board with leaving Xingcheng, they’ll stay.
  2. Guan Xu seems to have landed on his feet, having already lined up a spot at the Third Hospital.
  3. Yu Shi has a promising opportunity herself – a recommendation to go to Shenzhen for advanced studies. The plan is for her to come back eventually, but in the meantime, something else is brewing. After all this time working together, it looks like she’s finally caught some feelings for Guan Xu! They decide to give dating a shot. Go, you two!
  4. Our main man, Zhao Dongcheng, and the ever-loyal Shen Xinxin are still in limbo. Shen Xinxin has always just followed Zhao Dongcheng's lead, but Zhao is pushing him to think for himself and make his own choices. Easier said than done for Xinxin, who, feeling lost, turns to his mom. Her response? Basically, "You're a grown man in your thirties, figure it out yourself!" Ouch, Mom. Tough love, much?

Speaking of moms, Yu Shi's mother seems to have chilled out a bit and is no longer meddling in her daughter's choices. This leads to a slightly awkward but ultimately okay moment when Yu Shi and Guan Xu are on a date. Yu Shi takes the lead and kisses him, only for her mom to walk by at that exact second! Momma Yu doesn't make a big scene, just comments that they're old enough to know better than to be making out on the street. Fair enough!

Meanwhile, Zhao Dongcheng is really struggling with the thought of leaving. Xiao Han from Central Hospital pops by and tries again to recruit him, pointing out that with the community literally being torn down, what's he still mulling over? But for Zhao Dongcheng, it's clear this place holds too many memories and too much of his heart.

We also see Xiao Xia handling her late grandfather's affairs. She sells his house and donates the money to the local elementary school – what a gem! Then, she decides it's time for a change of scenery and plans to do some traveling. Zhao Dongcheng sees her off, and though there's a definite connection there, he feels the timing isn't right for them to become a couple. Xiao Xia, for her part, acknowledges she needs to learn to stand on her own two feet without relying too much on him. It’s a bittersweet goodbye.

Things take a bit of a turn when Zhao Dongcheng, just trying to grab some noodles at Chun Jie's place, gets into a heated argument. Some jerk is loudly proclaiming that the neighborhood and the hospital should be demolished. Zhao Dongcheng, bless his protective soul, can't let it slide. No punches are thrown, but he ends up injuring his hand in the scuffle. When word gets out, the whole gang rushes to Chun Jie's and then accompanies him home, though he's not really in the mood to explain.

Knowing he's down in the dumps, his friends decide to lift his spirits. They secretly plan a hotpot dinner at his place – and get this, Yu Shi's mom and Shen Xinxin's parents are there too! It's a heartwarming scene with everyone gathered, sharing food and laughter, a much-needed moment of joy.

As demolition day inches closer, everyone is busy packing. Zhao Dongcheng finally makes a decision: he’ll transfer to another community hospital. He feels that’s where he truly belongs, serving the people directly.

But hold on to your hats, folks, because here comes the kicker! Just as everyone’s resigned to their new paths, they get incredible news: the community hospital isn't going to stay demolished. It’s going to be REBUILT! The team can stay together after all! The relief and happiness are absolutely palpable. Our crew gets to stick together and continue their amazing work in the place they call home.
