In a revealing conversation, He Yan cleverly tests Xiao Jue's memory about his past at the Xianchang Pavilion. Her knowledge makes him slightly suspicious, but she manages to lie her way out of it. When she casually asks if he has ever given osmanthus candy to anyone else, Xiao Jue recounts giving it to a suicidal young woman at the Yuhua Temple. He Yan is stunned, realizing that he was the very man she met at the temple when she was blind. For Xiao Jue at the time, the candy symbolized his own greed and desires, and he felt it was better to give it away to help someone else overcome their own darkness.

The pair must adopt false identities for their upcoming mission to Jiyang. In a moment that catches He Yan completely off guard, Xiao Jue asks if she likes him. She stammers that she doesn't. He seems pleased, explaining it's for the best, as he plans to impersonate Qiao Huanqing, the long-lost nephew of a loyal official named Cui Yuezhi. According to the backstory, Qiao Huanqing is newly married to a famously talented woman named Wen Yuyan, whom he adores and constantly boasts about. Therefore, he would certainly bring his wife with him to the reunion in Jiyang.

Naturally, He Yan is tasked with playing the part of Wen Yuyan. Xiao Jue insists she must quickly become proficient in the "four arts"—zither, chess, calligraphy, and painting—at least enough to be convincing. Worried that Xiao Jue might recognize her distinctive calligraphy from her past life, He Yan deliberately pretends to be unskilled in all areas. This leads to Xiao Jue personally teaching her the zither. The close proximity during the lesson makes He Yan incredibly tense. While Xiao Jue compliments her improving posture, he dryly notes that her playing is mostly just very loud.

Later, Song Taotao brings He Yan some medicinal soup and insists on taking her pulse, which leads to the shocking discovery that He Yan is a woman. Song Taotao storms off, not because she was deceived, but because she felt He Yan didn't trust her. After He Yan explains everything, the two friends reconcile, and Song Taotao personally helps dress He Yan in women's clothing, transforming her into the elegant Lady Wen Yuyan. Fei Nu is speechless when he sees He Yan in her new attire, finally realizing her true gender.

The group then sets off for Jiyang. Meanwhile, Chu Zhao and Ying Xiang, who are already in the city, find their movements restricted by Xiao Jue's men, preventing them from locating Chai Anxi. Chu Zhao decides to use Xiao Jue's arrival to his advantage to find their target. Upon their arrival, Xiao Jue and He Yan meet Cui Yuezhi, who is completely fooled by their disguise and is quite impressed with his "nephew."

Lady Wei, their host, has prepared a room for the "newlyweds," complete with an erotic painting. Xiao Jue tries to prevent He Yan from seeing it, but she insists. Her frank and unfazed reaction to the art makes the stoic Xiao Jue seem like the prude one. As he playfully moves closer to her, they tumble onto the painting just as Fei Nu knocks and enters, walking in on the embarrassing scene. Fei Nu quickly delivers his report and makes a hasty exit.

Getting deeper into her role, He Yan jokingly asks Xiao Jue to draw her eyebrows for her. To her surprise, he agrees. His focused and serious expression as he performs the intimate task leaves He Yan mesmerized, and the one who made the request suddenly becomes shy. As Xiao Jue flirts and leans in close, He Yan blushes furiously. At the same time, a more sinister plot unfolds as Xu Jingfu provides the Wutuo people with a map of Jiyang's secret passages and a portrait of Chai Anxi, ordering them to find and eliminate him.
