Feud: Episode 4 Recap & Spoilers

The fallout from the chaotic wedding ceremony continues as Fan Jiao Jiao, in a state of sheer panic, realizes he has married the wrong woman—and not just any woman, but his own master's intended bride. He frantically tries to explain the situation to Bai Jiusi, while Cang Tu attempts to do the same with Li Qingyue, giving her a crash course on the Nine Heavens in the process.

Left alone after Cang Tu departs, a thirsty Li Qingyue rummages through a cabinet looking for a cup. Instead of a cup, she discovers a small child hiding inside. The boy, who calls himself Yin Tong Zi, insists on telling her a story. To her growing horror, Li Qingyue realizes the story is about her own life. As the tale concludes, the child declares his intention to eat her, lunging forward. Just in the nick of time, Ning Yan appears and drives the creature away. She explains that Yin Tong Zi is a demon that feeds on brains and advises Li Qingyue that to defeat him, she simply needs to cover her ears and refuse to listen to his stories.

Following the marriage fiasco, Bai Jiusi decides it's best for Li Qingyue to stay with him for her safety. He summons Ning Yan to serve as her companion. As Li Qingyue settles in, she applies makeup one day, a practice completely foreign to Ning Yan, who watches in bewilderment, thinking her new mistress is painting on her face.

Dressed exquisitely, Li Qingyue goes to see Bai Jiusi, hoping to clear the air. However, her path is blocked by his two guards, the Gatekeeper Grand Marshal and the Gatekeeper Grand General. The two immediately fall into a fierce argument over whose duty it is to announce her, a squabble that turns into an all-day brawl. After waiting for hours, Li Qingyue gives up and returns to her quarters. The next day, she tries again, only to find the two guards picking up their fight right where they left off.

Frustrated and unable to get an audience, Li Qingyue worries that Bai Jiusi is genuinely angry with her for the accidental marriage. Naive in the ways of romance, she turns to illustrated romance novels for guidance. Her studies prove a little too effective, as her newfound "knowledge" and behavior quickly become gossip throughout the immortal realm, eventually reaching Bai Jiusi's ears. Meanwhile, her relationship with the brain-eating demon, Yin Tong Zi, takes an unexpected turn. She begins sharing her fruit with him, and the two strike up an unlikely friendship.

Bai Jiusi finally confronts her, but only to confiscate her romance novels. Undeterred, Li Qingyue, having memorized the material, attempts to put her lessons into practice by sneaking into his room that night. The effort, however, falls flat. Changing tactics, she asks Bai Jiusi to teach her magic. She reasons that as a mere mortal with a finite lifespan, she wants to learn so she won't always be a burden and can spend more time with him, an eternal being who "shines with the sun and moon." Touched by her words, Bai Jiusi agrees. During their training, he is stunned to discover that she possesses the rare ability to control Blazing Fire.

Growing tired of a diet consisting solely of Ning Yan's fruits, Li Qingyue decides she wants a proper kitchen. When Bai Jiusi flatly refuses her request, she challenges him to a game of chess—if she wins, he must build it for her. Their game is interrupted by the arrival of Fan Ling'er, who has come to see Bai Jiusi.

Instantly jealous, Li Qingyue uses the pretense of serving tea to get a look at her rival. Fan Ling'er is openly hostile toward her, forcing her father, Fan Jiao Jiao, to intervene. Later, Fan Ling'er, who is also in love with Bai Jiusi, berates her father for not telling her he had gotten married. But after seeing Li Qingyue's beauty, she concedes that she understands why the immortal lord would choose a mortal. But understanding doesn't equal acceptance. That night, consumed by resentment, Fan Ling'er dispatches a shadowy assassin to kill Li Qingyue.
