Spoiler Alert

A Messy Romance and a Trail of Bodies

This episode was a lot. We got some cute domestic moments, a truly terrible attempt at romance, and then a straight-up massacre. Things are moving fast.

Just Drink the Medicine

Jin An is in full-time caretaker mode. He diligently brews medicine for Li Shuang every day. His main job, though, is convincing her to actually drink the stuff. Today, she's putting up a real fight. He ends up trapping her in his arms just to get the medicine down. It’s all very dramatic.

Later, they have a serious talk about Wuling Mountain. Li Shuang thinks people there might know about Jin An's past.He tells her that finding out who he is would be fine. But he also says it doesn't really matter. He would rather just give up his old life and find a quiet place to live with her. While this is happening, Lu Xin and Qiao'er are spying on them. They argue about whether Li Shuang should be with Jin An or the mysterious Xuan Yi Ke.

A Bad Beard and Worse Poetry

Ouyang Jun crashes the party with a problem. He has a crush on Qiao'er and needs Jin An's help. Jin An's brilliant idea is for Ouyang Jun to recite poetry to her. It goes about as well as you'd expect. Qiao'er just gives him a huge eye-roll and walks away.

Lu Xin is still trying to fix Jin An's amnesia. She makes a new pill for him. He takes it, but his memory doesn't come back. Instead, he grows a very long, very sudden beard. He gets so embarrassed that he hides under the covers in his room. Li Shuang has to drag the blanket off him. She takes one look, says he looks a little handsome, and then pulls out a knife. She shaves the beard right off his face.

The Truth Gets Buried

A Secret Identity

Things take a dark turn. A man dressed like a merchant starts asking around about Jin An. A local businessman, Boss Cang, recognizes him. The man is looking for Duan Aodeng, the King of Annan. This means our amnesiac Jin An is actually a king from the enemy Yao Kingdom.Boss Cang realizes he is in serious trouble. He makes a deal to help find Jin An.

But he's not completely without a conscience. After the king's men leave, Boss Cang immediately writes a letter to the General's Mansion. He needs to warn Li Shuang about who she's really protecting.

No Loose Ends

The warning never arrives. Boss Cang's messenger is killed before he even leaves the property. Then, a man named Jin Wujian shows up and murders Boss Cang.He doesn't stop there. He kills every single person in the household.

Unaware of the slaughter, Li Shuang decides to take Jin An to Ninglan. She wants to ask Boss Cang for help with Jin An's identity. She sends everyone else back to Lu City for safety. When they arrive, they find the entire family has been murdered. Li Shuang feels responsible. She knows this happened because of her.

The episode ends with a quick jump to Wuling Mountain. Word has reached them about a "Xuan Yi Ke" in Lu City. They believe this figure is connected to something called the Jade Exquisite.
