Episode Summary

The episode starts with Jin An's failed assassination attempt on Li Wei during his birthday party. This leads to a brutal confrontation where Li Shuang stabs Jin An and ends their relationship.Jin An is rescued but wakes up with amnesia, remembering only his life as Duan Aodeng, King of Annan.He returns to the Yao court to reclaim his power from the Empress Dowager. Meanwhile, Li Shuang learns Jin An's true identity and the reason for his actions.The two meet again on the battlefield as enemy generals, and the episode ends with Duan Aodeng capturing Li Shuang.

The Birthday Party from Hell

A Gift Nobody Wanted

The episode kicks off at a birthday party for Li Wei, Li Shuang's father. She and her brother, Li Ting, are there to celebrate. Jin An also shows up, claiming he has a special gift.

His gift was a team of assassins.

They attack Li Wei, who, to his credit, handles himself pretty well. Li Shuang and Li Ting jump in to protect their dad. Li Shuang, still clueless, even yells at Jin An to help. Instead, he pulls out his own knife and goes straight for Li Wei.

The Breakup

Li Shuang is in total shock. She physically blocks Jin An's path. Before he can do more damage, the Changfeng Army arrives, and Jin An makes a run for it.

But Li Shuang isn't letting him go that easily. She's furious. She chases him down on horseback and demands to know what's going on. She reminds him they had a plan to leave the city together, but he used her dad's party as an excuse to stay.

Jin An admits it was all a setup. He says his feelings for her are real, but it's also real that Li Wei killed his family.Li Shuang doesn't believe her father would kill innocent people. It's a standoff. So, she does the only logical thing.

She stabs him in the shoulder.

She tells him they are completely over, and then she leaves him there.

The King Returns

Amnesia and a New Mission

After Li Shuang leaves, Jin An collapses. His old subordinates find him and get him to an inn. When he wakes up, he's got amnesia. Of course he does. He has forgotten the entire past year.

He's told that his brother is dead and that the scheming Consort Qin is now the Empress Dowager, controlling the entire court. This snaps him back to reality. He remembers who he really is: Duan Aodeng, the King of Annan.He decides it's time to go back and clean house.

A Showdown at Court

The Empress Dowager is busy trying to start a war and talking trash about Duan Aodeng's soldiers. Right on cue, Duan Aodeng himself walks into the main hall. The entire court immediately backs him, and the Empress Dowager starts to panic.

She tries to play nice and offers to restore his titles. He completely ignores her. He warns her to stay in her lane, or she'll end up dead. The message is crystal clear. He's back in charge.

The Truth Comes Out

Li Shuang Gets a Reality Check

Back at the palace, Li Shuang is trying to explain that her fight with Jin An was a personal matter. That’s when Su Muyang decides to drop a massive truth bomb. He tells her that Jin An is actually Duan Aodeng.

At first, she thinks he's lying. But then Su Muyang explains the motive. Duan Aodeng's brother, Duan Aoze, was killed by her father, Li Wei. That's why he tried to kill him at the party.Su Muyang tells her to get ready. Tai Jin is going to war with the Yao Kingdom, and she will be leading the charge. Li Shuang doesn't want to fight Jin An, but it's not up for debate.

Enemies on the Battlefield

The Final Showdown

Li Shuang is back in Lu City, trying to process the fact that the man she loves is the enemy general she's fought for years. When Tai Jin officially declares war, Duan Aodeng volunteers to lead the Yao army.

They finally meet again on the battlefield. He looks at her with cold, unfamiliar eyes. It's clear he doesn't remember her or anything about his time as Jin An.All he sees is the daughter of the man who killed his brother.

They fight, and they're evenly matched. But the Yao army set a trap. Li Shuang is surrounded and has no way to escape. Duan Aodeng captures her.
