A Tense Dinner

Things are awkward between Jin An and his captive, Li Shuang. He gives her a perfect chance to poison his dinner. He even brings her the dog tags of two soldiers who were killed, telling her he ordered them to be buried with honor.

Li Shuang doesn't take the bait. She grabs the chopsticks and starts eating the food herself. She proves it isn't poisoned. She tells him she believes he is an honorable man. Jin An then asks about the name she calls out in her sleep. She says it was just a guy she found in the wild. He gets a little snippy. He points out that this person she cares so much about is nowhere to be found.

A Painful Comparison

Li Shuang has a request. She wants Jin An to bring her a qin, a stringed instrument. She tells him he looks a lot like the other man. Seeing his face makes her happy. This really gets under his skin. He angrily tells her to never compare him to a lowly servant again.

An Escape and a Companion

Meanwhile, Lu Xin is getting ready to leave Wuling Mountain. Mo Yin is not happy about it. She wants to go down the mountain to practice medicine. He flat-out forbids it. He tells her if she leaves, she is no longer one of his people.

Lu Xin argues with him. Then she sees his hand is sore from grinding so many herbs. Her heart softens. She gives him a special ointment she made. Later that night, she tries to sneak out with a supply of medicine. Mo Yin catches her. But instead of stopping her, he decides to go with her. He claims he's just worried she'll ruin the reputation of Wuling Mountain. Lu Xin is touched. She knows he just can't stand to see her go alone.

A Horrible Melody

Back at Li Shuang's courtyard, there is a huge commotion. The guards are in agony. Li Shuang is playing the qin, and the sound is absolutely terrible. Jin An rushes in and has to cover his ears. He tells her she's skilled in many things, but she has zero self-awareness about her musical talent.

He then confronts her about not taking her medicine. He uses a little reverse psychology, and she finally drinks it down. She's surprised to find that it's sweet. Jin An admits he ordered someone to add honey because he knew she wasn't taking it. This small kindness reminds her of her past with the real Jin An.

To thank him, she offers to play a song. It's the song her Jin An used to love most. The music is so bad that Jin An can't stand it. He takes the instrument from her and plays the song himself, perfectly. Li Shuang gets lost in the memory. She's staring at a man who looks just like her love but remembers nothing.
