Spoiler Alert
The episode opens with Feng Qingzhuo on the brink of death, unconscious from severe blood loss as Huang Wuchang chants a spell. Just in the nick of time, Xiao Beiming and Tong Shuang arrive, saving Feng Qingzhuo from a fatal blow. Tong Shuang stays behind to fight off their enemies, ensuring the others can escape. When Feng Qingzhuo awakens, he sees Huo Dairong by his side and initially mistakes her for a hallucination. As Wang Feihu arrives with reinforcements, Xiao Beiming acts decisively. He stops Huang Wuchang from escaping, snatches a refined, mysterious pill, and rips off the mask to reveal his true face.
The next day, numerous doctors examine Feng Qingzhuo but can only shake their heads, declaring his condition critical. With his last ounce of strength, Feng Qingzhuo provides them with a medical prescription. Though skeptical, the doctors follow it. Meanwhile, a guilt-ridden Tong Shuang apologizes to Feng Qingzhuo, blaming herself for arriving late and nearly costing him his life. That night, Zhong Xueman interrogates Huang Wuchang, who viciously frames Xiao Beiming, claiming he was only following his orders.
When Feng Qingzhuo finally wakes up for good, he finds Huo Dairong has been watching over him. She carefully feeds him medicinal soup. Though he has deep feelings for her, he can't bring himself to confess, only managing to whisper his thanks. With Huang Wuchang now in Wang Feihu's custody and scheduled for escort to the capital the next day, Xiao Beiming senses something is wrong. He finds it suspicious that a reply from the capital arrived so quickly and predicts that the journey will not be smooth.
As expected, while Zhong Xueman and Xiao Beiming accompany Wang Feihu to escort the prisoner, they are intercepted by Zhuge Kongyun. It's revealed that Zhuge has been secretly tailing Zhong Xueman. Under the pretext of investigating the "Night Devil" case, he forcibly takes custody of Huang Wuchang. Swallowing her anger, Zhong Xueman has no choice but to hand him over. Zhuge then walks towards the carriage, ostensibly to greet Huo Dairong and Feng Qingzhuo, but stops short of lifting the curtain, much to everyone's relief.
Xiao Beiming realizes Zhuge Kongyun knows he is alive but is puzzled as to why he isn't being exposed. Unbeknownst to him, Zhuge is fully aware that Xiao Beiming is in the carriage and plans to use him to investigate the truth behind the Night Devil. Zhong Xueman holds a very low opinion of Zhuge, recalling a time in their childhood when he ruthlessly used a little girl as bait to catch a criminal.
Later, while escorting Huang Wuchang, Zhuge Kongyun and his men notice the roadside has become unnervingly silent. Before they can react, they realize they have been knocked out by gas. Back in the capital, Zhong Xueman furiously vents to Fang Zheng, upset that the Dark Detective Camp stole their hard-earned prize only to lose the prisoner.
Zhuge Kongyun awakens to find Huang Wuchang gone. With an imperial audience scheduled for the next day, he is at a loss. Zhong Xueman secretly finds him, stating she has a way to recapture Huang Wuchang and that she knew they were hit with knockout gas. In fact, she and Xiao Beiming had already deduced the attacker was "Old Bug." After sharing this information with Zhuge Kongyun, he recalls the details of the ambush and begins to suspect there is a mole in his own ranks.
