Spoiler Alert
The episode kicks off with the Grand Princess collapsing from anxiety over Song Rou's case, only to be miraculously saved by Qin Wan. Out of gratitude, the Yue family insists that Qin Wan stay for a few days to monitor the princess's recovery. Meanwhile, Yan Chi and Qin Wan have a moment over a dagger named Hanyue. She tries to return it, but he insists it's better suited for her, as she can use it to save lives. Yan Chi's mention of a man named Shen Yi clearly unnerves Qin Wan's maid, Fuling, though Qin Wan herself remains composed, leaving Yan Chi to wonder why they are so secretive about a person he respects.
The investigation continues as Qin Wan feels something is off about Wei Yanzhi's behavior during a friendly duel with Yue Ning. She believes the truth can only be found on the victim's body. The plot thickens when Fuling is frightened by what appears to be a ghost. Qin Wan, ever the rationalist, deduces it's a person in disguise trying to scare them. She discovers clues, and the "ghost's" wedding dress is eerily similar to the one the victim wore. Wei Yanzhi recognizes the dress as Song Rou's, revealing that only two such dresses exist in the entire kingdom, and the other one has gone missing.
Amidst the mystery, Prefect Huo is eager to arrange a marriage between his arrogant son and Qin Wan, hoping to elevate his family's status. His son, however, looks down on Qin Wan. Rumors begin to circulate, accusing Qin Wan of causing Song Rou's death, which she suspects are being spread by the Song family to create distrust. Yan Chi is angered by the gossip, but Qin Wan is unfazed, impressing him with her resilience. As a gesture of his growing admiration and to apologize for misjudging her motives, Yan Chi gifts her a set of deer-hide gloves and golden needles for her work.
The episode culminates with the autopsy. Escorted by Yan Chi, Qin Wan arrives to perform the examination. Prefect Huo's son scoffs at the idea, but Qin Wan proceeds with Yan Chi assisting as her scribe. The examination yields crucial findings: Song Rou was dressed in the wedding gown after she was already dead. More shockingly, Qin Wan discovers bite marks on the body, leading her to speculate that Song Rou was having a secret affair before her wedding day.
