A Father's Choice

Lin Siyun is in the operating room. She looks at Xiao Yanhong, pale and fighting for her life. She’s a doctor, and there’s a living person right in front of her. She makes a choice. She saves the mother.

When Zeng Peide hears the baby didn't make it, he snaps. He pulls a gun and points it right at Lin Siyun’s head. He’s about to pull the trigger. Cheng Ao runs in, screaming at his father not to shoot. After a few tense moments, Zeng Peide fires three shots away from them. Then he looks at Cheng Ao and disowns him on the spot.

Zeng Dalun doesn't want to compete. He goes straight to the Japanese. He asks them to get rid of Shen Yiqun for him.

Shen Yiqun knows something is up. He also knows Cheng Ao has connections with the resistance. He goes to Cheng Ao late at night to warn him about the operation. He gives Cheng Ao two boat tickets to Chongqing, telling him to take Lin Siyun and get out.

A Final Goodbye

After leaving Cheng Ao, Shen Yiqun meets Lin Siyun at a church. He gives her a set of keys. They're for a new villa in Chongqing. He genuinely likes her and tells her he hopes she and Cheng Ao will be happy together. It’s a surprisingly sweet moment.

It doesn’t last. As Shen Yiqun leaves the church, he’s assassinated by the Japanese.
