Spoiler Alert

The Wedding Is Off

So, the whole family is buzzing about Lin Siyun’s wedding to Qiao Shijun. Everyone except Lin Siyun, that is. I get it, the guy is connected. He's been pulling strings to help her set up her hospital, getting all the right paperwork stamped without any trouble. He’s also been respectful to her. You could see a world where this works out, even if they aren't deeply in love. But that's not where this story is going.

The Anonymous Letter

The day before the wedding, Lin Siyun gets an anonymous letter. It’s a love letter from her fiancé, Qiao Shijun, to his secret girlfriend. A girlfriend who is still in middle school. In the letter, he tells this girl that his marriage to Lin Siyun is just a show for their parents. He promises he'll take care of the girl and give her a real position once she graduates. This is how Lin Siyun finally sees her fiancé for who he really is. She immediately goes to confront him.

The Confrontation

Here’s the kicker. Qiao Shijun doesn't even try to hide it. He acts like having a few women on the side is perfectly normal. He even has the nerve to suggest Lin Siyun should be in charge of paying for their expenses. He calls himself a "progressive youth" but holds onto the worst parts of the old society. Then he shows his true colors. He reminds Lin Siyun that her brother, Lin Jinghan, desperately needs money to pay off his debts. It's straight-up blackmail.

Qiao's parents even call Lin Jinghan to try and smooth things over. Her brother gets so desperate that he begs her, even pretending to hang himself to get her to agree. But Lin Siyun doesn't cave. Instead, she goes to the newspapers and publishes the contents of the letter. Now, everyone knows the wedding is off.

Cheng Ao's Power Moves

Cheng Ao sees the news in the paper and he is thrilled. He goes to see Qiao Shijun and admits he was the one who sent the letter to Lin Siyun. And it wasn't just one letter. He shows Qiao a whole stack of them. The look on Qiao Shijun's face was priceless.

Dealing with Daisy

The drama doesn't stop there. Daisy is pregnant and wants to force Shen Yiqun to marry her. Her plan is to publish a photo of them together in the newspaper. Cheng Ao gets an inside tip about it. He moves fast, buying up every single copy of that day's paper and even purchasing the copyright to the photo for a huge sum.

After handling that, he goes to see Shen Yiqun. Shen Yiqun is cold about the whole thing. He doesn't seem to care about Daisy's safety at all. He just analyzes the political fallout, predicting that someone will probably kill her to silence her. Cheng Ao realizes Daisy is in real danger. He knows Shen Yiqun won't let her ruin his reputation. So, Cheng Ao gives Daisy a large amount of money and sends her away from Shanghai.

A New Family Crisis

Lin Siyun called off her wedding, but her brother's debt is still a huge problem. Lin Jinghan is out of options. He decides to solve his money problem by using his own daughter, Xiao Yi.

A Desperate Deal

He finds a family willing to pay off his debt in exchange for his daughter's hand in marriage. He takes Xiao Yi to a hotel for the engagement dinner without telling her what's happening. When Xiao Yi finally learns the truth at the dinner table, she refuses. Her intended fiancé is just a little boy, still in primary school. The age difference is ridiculous.

Lin Jinghan doesn't take no for an answer. He drags his daughter into the street and hits her, trying to force her back to the engagement party. Just then, a stranger, a young man, steps in and saves Xiao Yi. The engagement, thankfully, does not happen.
