Spoiler Alert
If you thought family drama couldn’t get more chaotic, Love Again Episode 28 just upped the ante with money gone missing, love triangles imploding, and some truly gut-wrenching moments. Let’s break it all down.
Family, Funds, and Fury
Liu Debao is trying to do something noble—fix up his family’s ancestral hall. He casually mentions to Shen Zhuoran that none of the ten Liu brothers are willing to chip in ¥20,000. His wife, Sun Baoqin, won’t give him a dime either, so he’s thinking of borrowing the money from his fishing buddies. Right then, Shen Dai transfers him the exact amount on the spot. Talk about timing. Debao is visibly uncomfortable taking money from her, but Zhuoran convinces him to accept it.
Sun Baoqin, however, is not okay with any of this.
Unable to reach Liu Debao by phone, she storms into the bank to check his account. She sees the mysterious ¥20,000 deposit and, even though she doesn’t have the card, manages to get help from a worker by pulling out both their IDs. But when she tries to withdraw the money—it’s gone. Boom. Vanished. She’s stunned.
Meanwhile, Debao returns home with a plaque written by Zhuoran, only to get verbally wrecked by Baoqin. He confesses the money came from Shen Dai, and Baoqin lets him have it again.
Secrets, Songs, and Suspicion
Shen Qing is holed up in his study, obsessively listening to a song by Ice Li. He’s totally entranced. Liu Lina thinks he’s burning the midnight oil and brings him fruit, only to find him vibing to music. She grabs his phone to see what’s going on—awkward.
Later that night, a furious Sun Baoqin shows up at Shen Dai’s place to return the ¥20,000. She warns Liu Lina to keep an eye on the family’s savings. Turns out, Lina already gave the money to Shen Qing to fund his project. Baoqin goes nuclear, scolding Lina hard, and Shen Qing hears everything from the study.
Love Triangles & Public Drama
Li Heibao calls Le Shuishan, but she ignores him. So what does he do? Shows up at her choir practice. She makes it clear—they’re over. Heibao doesn’t take rejection well and starts harassing her.
Enter knight-in-shining-armor Shen Zhuoran, who confronts Heibao. Heibao, in return, mocks Zhuoran as just a backup boyfriend. Thankfully, Gou Bingqiang and Ding Mu step in to support Zhuoran, who then grabs Le Shuishan’s hand and walks her out. Total mic-drop moment.
Dreams, Designs, and Disappointments
Liu Lina wants to design school uniforms herself after realizing hiring a professional is too pricey. Xiao Bai believes in her—aww. But when her son Duole’s teacher calls to say he wants to study film, Lina laughs it off as unrealistic. She vents hard to Xiao Bai, who gifts her two concert tickets—maybe a little escape will help?
She later shows her designs to Shen Qing, but he says they look like Duole’s current uniforms. Ouch. She tries to lighten the mood by offering the concert tickets, but Shen Qing bails with an excuse. That night, he sleeps on the couch. Lina, frustrated and wide awake, remembers her mom’s warnings and tries to sneak a peek at his phone—only to get caught red-handed.
Ice Li, Investment, and Emotional Baggage
Ice Li is doing everything she can to help Shen Qing secure funding for his research. Her motivation? Her grandfather died of lung cancer. Shen Qing is touched and invites her to the hospital for research. It’s clear there's a bond growing.
Meanwhile, Le Shuishan invites Zhuoran over for tea and takes him on a trip down memory lane through her family photos. The first one? A picture with her late husband, Zhang Yali.
Then comes the bombshell: Zhang Yali died because of a vile man named Tang Jialin, who tried to assault Le Shuishan. Zhang Yali stopped him but paid for it. Tang, full of revenge, sent Zhang—who had severe nearsightedness and high blood pressure—on a brutal mission in the desert. He didn’t survive. Le Shuishan, five months pregnant at the time, lost her baby after confronting Tang in grief. Zhuoran is furious and vows to find the man responsible.
Aging, Regrets, and Hard Choices
Ding Mu, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, forgets he left the tap running and floods his apartment. Zhuoran and Bingqiang rush over to help. Ding Mu tries to shut off the power himself, but his wife stops him, and in a heartbreaking moment, he slaps her in frustration. His daughter, Ding Shujing, screams at him—an emotional breakdown in front of everyone.
The scene shakes Zhuoran. Bingqiang uses the moment to warn him not to let love slip away. Later, Ding Mu is moved to a nursing home. Shen Dai, now committed to staying in China, joins Zhuoran and Bingqiang to visit him. Dai comforts the devastated Ding Shujing and quietly starts to worry about her own future.
Shen Qing reassures her—saying he expects to end up in a nursing home too. (Dark humor, anyone?)
To lift spirits, Zhuoran brings Ding Mu to choir practice, where everyone welcomes him warmly. He joins in the singing, finally finding a bit of peace.
Final Thoughts

And with Shen Dai officially staying, Liu Lina hitting her breaking point, and Zhuoran slowly stepping into hero territory, things are only just heating up.
