Zhao Jia Di Season 2, Episode 13 Recap & Spoilers: Big Wins, Big Problems, and a Rainy Rendezvous
Alright, so things are really heating up! Remember that risky short position Zhao Jiadi took at Risheng? Boom! It paid off big time. We're talking a turnaround profit of at least half a billion (yeah, you read that right!). Suddenly, the trading department is the talk of the company, and Zhao Jiadi, our once-underestimated intern, is the man of the hour. Everyone's looking at him differently now, and you can bet Lin Peng is feeling pretty smug, having backed Zhao Jiadi's instincts from the start. He's genuinely happy for the kid.
On the flip side, things aren't looking so rosy for the factory director who threw his lot in with Wei Jinghai. He lost everything and went crawling back to Wei Jinghai for answers, only to get threatened by the intimidating Jiao Ye and sent packing with his tail between his legs. Wei Jinghai, desperate to cover his own massive losses, is now eyeing the Karpunia Mining Area as a potential solution. Jiao Ye adds fuel to the fire, suggesting Wei Jinghai's real ticket is marrying Li Zhijin – if he can pull that off, the entire Li family fortune could potentially fall into his lap, especially if Li Zhijin fails her own bet and has to return to the family business.
Just as they're scheming, Jiao Ye gets a call – Zhao Jiadi reported them to the cops, getting several of Jiao Ye's guys arrested! Oh, it is on. Jiao Ye now has a serious vendetta against Zhao Jiadi. Interestingly, when Wei Jinghai hears Jiao Ye muttering Zhao Jiadi's name, he pauses while cleaning his glasses, a dark, unreadable expression clouding his face. Seems like that name rings a bell, and not in a good way.
Meanwhile, Xu Qiguang pays a visit to Li Minxian (Li Zhijin's grandfather) and casually drops the bomb that Risheng's huge success, which totally overshadowed Li Minxian's company Jufeng, was all thanks to an intern. This news does not sit well with Grandpa Li. Usually doting, he does a complete 180 and demands Li Zhijin immediately return to the Li Shi Group and join the Nanshan Chamber of Commerce. Li Zhijin, who values her freedom above all else, flat-out refuses to be tied down and storms out of the house in anger.
Back at Zhao Jiadi's place, he walks in to find Shang Bao and Fang Jie cooking up a storm. During dinner, Fang Jie mentions her restaurant is facing demolition – a detail Zhao Jiadi quietly files away. Later that night, his phone rings. It's Li Zhijin, wanting to meet. Despite the pouring rain and terrible traffic, Zhao Jiadi literally runs through the downpour to meet her. Seeing him arrive drenched but determined clearly touches Li Zhijin.
Things get pretty real between them. Zhao Jiadi repays the money Li Zhijin lent him, plus interest on the initial 100,000. It's kind of sweet (and a bit funny) that even now, neither of them knows the other's true identity or background. Li Zhijin admits she's scared to start a relationship because she fears uncertainty and endings. Zhao Jiadi tells her that if he ever asks about her identity, it means he's made his decision about them. Aww! You can practically see the little seeds of romance taking root right there in the rain.
Shifting gears to business politics, the Nanshan Chamber of Commerce is looking for a new president. It's shaping up to be a showdown between Wei Jinghai (representing the Li Shi Group's interests, sort of) and Fan Longquan from the rival Fan Long Group. Wei Jinghai tries to use a dinner gathering to drum up support, but Fan Longquan gives him the cold shoulder, leaving Wei Jinghai feeling sidelined and frustrated.
Now, for Zhao Jiadi's next move. He heads to a place where extras hang out and carefully selects a group of tough-looking guys with decent acting skills. His pitch? He needs them for a "role," specifically asking them to channel the vibe of classic Hong Kong or Taiwanese gangster movie henchmen. Intriguing!
Elsewhere, Fang Jie is still a bit hesitant about accepting Zhao Jiadi's help with the restaurant demolition. But Shang Bao is full of confidence. He insists that based on Zhao Jiadi's character, if he promised to help, he'll follow through. Shang Bao even guesses Zhao Jiadi has probably already got lawyers involved.
The situation at the restaurant escalates. The guy in charge of the demolition, Liu Zong, gets a call pressuring him to wrap things up quickly. He shows up with his goons, tells Fang Jie to make a decision fast, and offers a slightly higher compensation amount. But when Fang Jie counters with her own figure, Liu Zong dismisses it outright.
Just when things look tense, cue the dramatic entrance! Zhao Jiadi arrives, not alone, but leading his newly recruited "gangster" extras, all riding bright red tricycles in formation. The sheer visual and organized, imposing presence of these tough-looking guys is enough to stop Liu Zong's thugs in their tracks. They just stand there, suddenly losing all their earlier arrogance, clearly intimidated and unsure what to do next.
And that's where Episode 13 leaves us! Zhao Jiadi's flexing some unexpected muscles, romance is brewing in the rain, and the villains are feeling the heat. Can't wait to see how this plays out!
