Episode 6 reveals that Sun Yaokuan was poisoned at the Huasong Restaurant with tetrodotoxin, a substance Moss Trading is implicated in using. Sang De secretly meets with Lu Ka, a former assassin posing as a writer, urging him to get close to translator Xie Xiaoman. While National Security, led by Zhang Baiqing and Yang Guang, identifies Moss Trading as the culprit, they decide to delay arrests to uncover deeper connections. Li Jian returns to the team. Sang De faces pressure from She Shiyuan of Shoucheng Power Company for better tech samples, claiming they are in Lianhai. Yang Guang's team also heads to Lianhai for investigation. After a failed tech demonstration by Moss Trading in Lianhai, where Yang Guang discovers Zhao Yazhu was also deceived, Sang De and Duke attempt to flee via an airport. Spoiler Alert
So, the episode kicks off with some heavy science talk from Director Qu. Remember that whole poisoning incident? Well, Director Qu breaks down tetrodotoxin for us. Turns out, this stuff is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it can mess with nerve signals and control blood flow during cardiac arrest, making it a potential game-changer for heart disease treatment if developed correctly. But, and it's a big but, if you're going the poison route, its natural delay feature means you can control when it kicks in. This all points to one thing: Sun Yaokuan was poisoned before he even set foot in that conference center, and the Huasong Restaurant? Yeah, that was ground zero.
Later that night, we see Sang De acting super shady. He slips away from a restaurant, ditches the staff, and drives off to a riverside rendezvous with a guy named Lu Ka. And get this – Lu Ka, who's been posing as a writer, is actually a former professional killer! His "literary works"? All ghostwritten, courtesy of Sang De, just to give him a cover. Sang De’s message to Lu Ka is clear: keep a low profile and get close to the translator, Xie Xiaoman. And in a weirdly domestic touch, Sang De even brings Lu Ka his favorite egg fried rice. Villains gotta eat too, I guess?
Meanwhile, the National Security folks have wrapped up their evidence collection at the Huasong Restaurant. Yang Guang lays it all out for Zhang Baiqing: Moss Trading is the big bad behind Sun Yaokuan's poisoning and the whole scheme to steal China's top tech secrets. But Zhang Baiqing, playing the long game, decides it’s not time to reel them in just yet. He’s going for the "cast a long line to catch a big fish" strategy, hoping to uncover even bigger players pulling the strings. Smart, but risky!
On a more personal note, Li Jian is finally out of the hospital and back at the Third Division. He walks into an empty office, probably feeling a bit down, but then – surprise! The whole team jumps out to welcome him back. It’s a genuinely touching moment, and you can tell Li Jian is moved.
Back to the corporate espionage front: She Shiyuan, the planning director from Shoucheng Power Company, isn't too impressed with the tech sample Moss Trading (via Sang De) provided. He wants more details, but Sang De stalls, saying the real deal is in Lianhai and won't be ready until May 11th. Coincidentally (or not!), Yang Guang also requests permission to head to Lianhai for his investigation, and Zhang Baiqing gives him the green light.
So, off to Lianhai goes the Third Division team! On the way, Li Jian can't resist teasing Yang Guang about getting close to Tian Ziwei. Classic. Speaking of Tian Ziwei, she calls in with an update: Sang De and his crew are about to hit their hotel. This sends our team scrambling to set up surveillance and book rooms nearby. Zhao Yazhu, ever the professional, immediately sweeps her room for any hidden cameras or bugs. Once settled, Sang De and Zhao Yazhu take She Shiyuan out for some "leisure time" at a KTV, complete with a bevy of women to liven things up. Business as usual for these guys, huh?
Fast forward to May 12th, midday. Sang De and his team are presenting their tech solution to She Shiyuan. Yang Guang and his team are watching from the sidelines, and it's pretty clear things aren't going smoothly for Moss Trading. Zhao Yazhu even makes a call to a "Luobote" (Robert?), admitting the tech demo was a total bust and they're still figuring out what went wrong. Thanks to a listening device Yang Guang cleverly planted, he overhears this and realizes something crucial: Zhao Yazhu has been duped too! Interesting.
The plot thickens as Yang Guang and Li Jian tail Sang De. But then, drama strikes! A pregnant woman driving another car nearly gets into a serious accident. Being the good guys they are, Yang Guang and Li Jian can't just leave her; they personally rush her to the hospital. Noble, yes, but by the time they’re done, Sang De is long gone. Vanished. Even checking the surveillance footage yields nothing. Then, Yang Guang spots something fishy at Gate 3 of what looks like an airport. A closer look reveals Sang De and another associate, Duke, in disguise, slipping into the airport.
Desperate, Yang Guang contacts Sun Yaokuan's wife, trying to get a lead on Sang De's whereabouts. This leads him to a villa, and who does he find inside? Sang De and Duke, of course! The two make a break for it. As Yang Guang gives chase, a white car comes out of nowhere and slams into him, knocking him out cold.
When Yang Guang comes to, he's in a hospital bed, and Zhao Yazhu is right there beside him. After learning she was the one who saved him, Yang Guang, probably still dazed, blurts out, "Why are you always around when I'm in trouble?" Zhao Yazhu doesn’t answer, leaving us all hanging. Just then, Li Jian rushes in, and that’s where Episode 6 leaves us – with Yang Guang injured, Sang De on the run, and a whole lot of questions!
