Mie Zui Episode 12 Recap & Spoilers

Alright, so the episode kicks off with Wu Keran confronting Liu Yi. Playing the victim card herself, Wu Keran manages to hit Liu Yi right in the conscience, forcing her to spill the beans. Here's the story: Liu Yi was cleaning at Jiang Xiao's place, forgot her wallet, and went back. That's when she walked in on the horrifying scene of Jiang Yan murdering a young woman. Yikes!

Initially, Liu Yi was terrified and didn't go to the police. Later, when she considered it, she saw Jiang Yan's car near the station and chickened out again. Jiang Yan then tracked her down, offered her a hefty sum of money, and promised to help find a bone marrow match for Liu Yi's critically ill granddaughter. The catch? Liu Yi had to keep her mouth shut. Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place.

Back at the station, our detectives Ning Zhen and Lu Fan, feeling for Liu Yi, try to crowdfund money for the granddaughter's surgery among their colleagues. It helps, but it's nowhere near enough. Ning Zhen decides to reach out to a children's foundation for more help.

Meanwhile, Cao Jin gets some crucial information (likely related to Wu Keran's digging) and immediately gets an arrest warrant for Jiang Xiao. This happens just as Jiang Yan is doing some charity work and fielding questions from reporters. Awkwardly, one reporter asks point-blank about Jiang Xiao being involved in a murder case. Her fixer, Mo Bei, quickly pulls her away. Jiang Yan is baffled about how the press knew, but a phone call soon clears it up: Wu Keran had deliberately played along with Jiang Yan's requests, waiting for the right moment to leak the evidence she'd gathered.

Jiang Xiao gets hauled into the station, but he's incredibly arrogant and refuses to confess. This time, however, the police have solid evidence, so his attitude doesn't help him. He's locked up in detention.

Just when you think things might be moving forward, Jiang Yan finds Liu Yi again after she leaves the police station. Using the surgery funds as leverage, Jiang Yan pressures Liu Yi to change her story. Since Liu Yi can't possibly repay the bribe money immediately, she feels forced to agree.

Ning Zhen and Lu Fan are puzzled about how Wu Keran knew Liu Yi was the witness in the first place. They visit Wu Keran in the hospital, slightly annoyed, pointing out that Liu Yi isn't exactly in a stable position to be a reliable witness right now. But Wu Keran is desperate; she's been waiting over a decade for answers and is understandably impatient for the truth.

Determined to help Liu Yi pay back the hush money quickly, Ning Zhen and Lu Fan decide to try the children's foundation again. That evening, a heartbroken Liu Yi looks at old photos of her and her granddaughter.

The next day brings a glimmer of hope: the children's foundation approves the funding for Liu Yi's granddaughter! Ning Zhen and Lu Fan are ecstatic and rush off to share the good news with Liu Yi. But tragedy strikes. At the same time, Cao Jin receives a call at the station: Liu Yi has hanged herself at home.

When Ning Zhen and Lu Fan arrive, they are devastated to find Liu Yi dead. She left behind a suicide note. The note completely flips the script: it claims Liu Yi actually saw the murdered girl leave in a taxi that day. It says she only lied about seeing Jiang Xiao commit the murder because she desperately needed the surgery money for her granddaughter. The note even claims the recording Wu Keran got was coerced. (Wait, didn't she originally say she saw Jiang Yan? This note seems specifically designed to clear Jiang Xiao).

Jiang Yan goes to the hospital to confront Wu Keran. Wu Keran initially thinks Jiang Yan is there because Jiang Xiao is finally facing justice, but Jiang Yan reveals Liu Yi's suicide and the contents of the note. Wu Keran is absolutely crushed. All the evidence now seems to point away from Jiang Xiao and potentially implicates Wu Keran in coercing a false testimony. Jiang Xiao is, once again, seemingly off the hook. To add insult to injury, when Wu Keran looks for Liu Yi's granddaughter in the next room, she learns the child has already been taken away by a child welfare agency. Wu Keran realizes she's been completely outmaneuvered and has lost everything.

Ning Zhen and Lu Fan are equally devastated on their way back. They feel like they were just one night away from a breakthrough, and now they're back to square one.

Just when all hope seems lost, Ning Zhen receives a text message from an unknown number. It contains a video. The video shows Jiang Xiao buying a large amount of construction materials after the murder incident. Ning Zhen has a sudden, chilling realization: maybe the victim's body never left Jiang Xiao's house.

Acting on this hunch, they immediately head to Jiang Xiao's home to conduct a search. Jiang Xiao, meanwhile, is probably thinking he's about to walk free. But in his house, Ning Zhen and Lu Fan make a horrifying discovery: they find the body of the murdered young woman. And chillingly... she's not the only one.
