Episode Summary
Episode 37 sees major confrontations and revelations. Cheng Nanping confronts Liu Zhendong about their past, where he admits he was tricked into believing they were siblings by Zheng Qiu but now only sees her as a sister. Liu Zhendong then discovers Liu Suibian has a child she claims is his. Meanwhile, Cheng Nanping breaks off her engagement with a furious Huang Zhongxin, who had sacrificed much for her. Huang Zhongxin's anger is interrupted by Zheng Qiu, who takes him to care for the ailing Huang Jinhu. The episode ends with underlying tension as Hong Yan shares a meal with Liu Suibian.

The drama kicked off with Liu Zhendong just trying to head home when, surprise surprise, Cheng Nanping pops up looking super serious. She’s all like, "We need to talk, and is here okay?" But Liu Zhendong is clearly not in the mood, saying he’s back with his mom for good in Shicheng and won't be leaving again. Cheng Nanping, though, was having none of it and basically strong-armed him over to her place.
Once there, the floodgates opened. Cheng Nanping cut right to the chase, asking Liu Zhendong if he deliberately used that other woman back in the day just to push her away. And Liu Zhendong, to his credit, didn't beat around the bush. He admitted it, explaining that someone had tricked him into believing Cheng Nanping was his actual sister! Can you imagine? He said it took him a whole year after leaving to even work up the nerve to ask his mom, who promptly slapped him for his foolishness (as she should have!). Cheng Nanping, sharp as ever, immediately guessed the meddler was Zheng Qiu, and Liu Zhendong’s silence was all the confirmation she needed.
This is where it got even juicier. Cheng Nanping, understandably, asked why he didn't come back to her once he knew the truth. Liu Zhendong clammed up for a bit before finally admitting that his feelings for her never really went beyond that of a brother for a sister. Ouch! Cheng Nanping, clearly heartbroken and frustrated, called him a coward, stating point-blank that her feelings for him were definitely not sisterly, and that it was Huang Zhongxin she saw as a brother. The angst is real, folks!
Later, Liu Zhendong makes it home, and Ah Gui mentions something interesting. Apparently, every time they have cleaners over, there’s this one young woman who’s already secretly tidied everything up perfectly. Ah Gui then drops the bomb that it’s someone they both know – Liu Suibian, the very same girl Liu Zhendong once gave that nickname to. Liu Zhendong, ever the stoic, just brushed it off like it was no big deal and walked away. Ah Gui, bless her heart, was left muttering about not knowing whether to congratulate him or not. Cryptic!
And the plot thickens! We then see Liu Zhendong wandering over to the old Po Zhai site, only to find it’s been turned into a tea house. He walks in, and who does he see? Liu Suibian... with a young child by her side. Liu Zhendong, completely stunned, asks who the kid is. Liu Suibian drops another bombshell: it’s his child, and she hasn't even named the boy yet, asking him to do the honors. Well, Liu Zhendong did what any totally unprepared, shocked man would do – he bolted! Liu Suibian, kid in tow, chased after him. Thankfully, Hong Yan showed up right then, asked a few quick questions, and then took the child home with her. Talk about a whirlwind!
Meanwhile, over at Huang Zhongxin’s place, Cheng Nanping walks into a full-on celebration setup – decorations, gifts, the works. Huang Zhongxin is all smiles, saying everyone’s ready for the banquet, they just need to pick a date, and cheekily adds that a wedding shouldn't be a repeat performance. But then, Cheng Nanping delivers the ultimate party-killer: she’s calling off the engagement. She tells him she’s always seen him as a brother and that marriage needs serious consideration. Huang Zhongxin went from zero to furious, then to this scary, almost laughing rage. He reminded her that he gave up a high-ranking position in the Shanhai Gang and sold fried kway teow for four years for her, all to be met with "serious consideration." You can't really blame the guy for being livid.
Things escalated quickly from there. Huang Zhongxin grabbed Cheng Nanping, declaring they were consummating the marriage that night. Cheng Nanping, not one to be manhandled, slapped him hard across the face and made her escape. And who should appear right on cue? Zheng Qiu, who personally escorted the still-fuming Huang Zhongxin to the hospital. Turns out, Huang Jinhu is sick in bed, so Huang Zhongxin had no choice but to stay and look after him.
The episode wrapped with Hong Yan having prepared a meal and inviting Liu Suibian to eat with her. You could cut the tension at that dinner table with a knife.
So many secrets are out, but it feels like we're just at the precipice of even more drama. What will Liu Zhendong do about this child? Is it really over between Cheng Nanping and Huang Zhongxin? And what’s Zheng Qiu’s next move? This show just keeps us guessing!
