A Night of Unspeakable Horror
In a harrowing flashback, Li Yaqing recounts a youthful affair with a married man, Zhang Guanghua, which led to a forced abortion. To appease her parents, she entered into a sham relationship with a man named Li Tan. Her only source of comfort during this bleak period was her twin sister, the real Huo Zihong. In an attempt to create a happy memory, Li Yaqing planned a birthday surprise for their parents: she had her sister take her place at the family party while she hid inside a wardrobe.
The innocent plan turned into a nightmare when Zhang Guanghua suddenly broke in. Hidden from view, Li Yaqing watched in horror as he brutally murdered her parents and her twin sister. This horrific event filled her with unimaginable grief and a burning rage.
A Vow of Vengeance
Shattered by the massacre, Li Yaqing forgoes calling the police, choosing instead to exact personal revenge. She tracks Zhang Guanghua to Datong and lures him to a remote reservoir, just as its floodgates are about to be released. A violent struggle ensues, during which Zhang Guanghua undergoes a terrifying transformation. His eyes turn blood-red, and he attacks with inhuman ferocity. He nearly strangles Li Yaqing, but a splash of the floodwater seems to momentarily break the spell, briefly restoring his sanity. Seizing the opportunity, Li Yaqing shoves him into the raging reservoir, completing her revenge but leaving her in a state of deep psychological turmoil.
A New Life, A Buried Past
Though she didn't kill him directly, Li Yaqing is consumed by her role in Zhang Guanghua's death. To escape her past, she makes the momentous decision to assume her sister's identity and live on as Huo Zihong. She later seeks out the informant Wan Fenghuo to confirm that Zhang Guanghua's body was never found, bringing a grim closure to that chapter. She also clarifies that her relationship with Li Tan was purely a facade and that she never had any feelings for him. With the truth finally out, Luo Ren decides to return to Xiao Shang He, while Li Yaqing retreats to Luoma Lake to begin her new, solitary life.
The Danger Escalates
While Li Yaqing grapples with her past, the supernatural threat intensifies for Luo Ren and Mu Dai. Luo Ren discovers Luo Pinting attempting to pry open the reinforced window guards of her room. Alarmed, he spends the night securing all the doors and windows to prevent her from escaping.
Meanwhile, Mu Dai learns from Wan Fenghuo about Shen Mukun, an expert in paranormal phenomena. She contacts him immediately, detailing Luo Pinting's bizarre behavior and the discovery of the human skin. Shen Mukun instantly connects the events to a mysterious artifact known as a "Xin Jian" (Heart Relic).
Mu Dai quickly relays this critical information to Luo Ren. Just as he is about to press for more details, a frantic shout from Zheng Bo upstairs alerts them that something has happened to Luo Pinting. She has managed to escape and has been injured in the process. When Luo Ren tries to restrain her, she lashes out and slashes his abdomen. Seeing Luo Ren wounded, Mu Dai steps in, offering to take care of the volatile Luo Pinting. Luo Ren, weakened but grateful, accepts her help.
The episode ends on a tense cliffhanger. Li Yaqing has embarked on a new life under a stolen identity, but her past is far from buried. At the same time, Luo Ren and Mu Dai are now facing a far more complex and dangerous enemy, as the mysterious "Xin Jian" is poised to wreak more havoc. The true crisis, it seems, has only just begun.
