Full Recap & Spoilers
A Daughter's Defiance
The episode opens on a note of quiet tension. After overhearing her mother’s adamant refusal to let her work at a cemetery, Youyou begins a hunger strike. She reflects on how even a mother's love can feel conditional, and her silent protest creates a tense stalemate in the household. This act of rebellion underscores her growing desire for independence and sets up a future conflict over her career path.
New Neighbors, New Problems
Xu Kaixin has moved in next door to Mei Chengyi, a step that should bring them closer. However, their first night as neighbors is anything but peaceful. Their children get into a shouting match from their respective balconies, yelling "I hate you!" back and forth. Kaixin and Chengyi quickly intervene, but their reactions are telling. Kaixin is pragmatic, believing a childish spat won't affect their relationship. Chengyi, however, is more anxious. He picks up his phone to call her but hesitates, revealing a sensitivity and insecurity that could become a hurdle for the new couple.
The Unforgivable Act
The episode takes a dark and violent turn with Qian Hao. Drunk and spiraling, he first makes a call to his mother's caregiver, sending a large sum of money for her care. When he returns home, he finds Hu Xiaojiao with her bags packed, a driver waiting to take her away for good. Enraged, Qian Hao refuses to let her leave. He violently carries her back to the bedroom, and when she fights back, they both fall to the floor. In a horrifying sequence, he strangles her until she loses consciousness and then assaults her. The violence causes Xiaojiao to suffer a miscarriage and hemorrhage severely.
The Hospital Vigil
At the hospital, the atmosphere is grim. Xia Chungeng, notified of the emergency, arrives with Ma Xiaomei. As they wait anxiously outside the operating room, Xia Chungeng’s rage boils over, and he attacks the catatonic Qian Hao, beating him relentlessly. It's only after he sobers up that the full weight of his actions hits Qian Hao. He slaps himself repeatedly before breaking down in a fit of agonizing sobs.
The wait is excruciating. Finally, a doctor emerges with devastating news: Hu Xiaojiao has survived, but she has lost the baby and will never be able to conceive again. The doctor’s furious condemnation of Qian Hao’s brutality is the final blow. Qian Hao collapses in the hallway, completely broken.
A Tentative Step Forward
In stark contrast to the hospital's grim reality, Kaixin and Chengyi find a moment for themselves. After their kids are asleep, they communicate from their balconies with a mix of sign language and whispers. They are both preparing for a "test"—their first night together. In a humorous sequence, Kaixin meticulously clips her toenails while Chengyi sorts through his collection of sexy underwear. With her friend Sister Lili staying over, Kaixin decides to go to Chengyi's apartment, adding a lighthearted, almost giddy energy to their budding romance.
The next morning, Kaixin wakes at Chengyi's at 6 a.m. and plots her escape before the children wake up. Chengyi cleverly distracts his kids, Yu An and Yu Le, by taking them to the bathroom, allowing Kaixin to sneak back home. She bumps into her son, Dami, who questions why she's wearing a trench coat. She fumbles for an excuse, which he thankfully accepts without suspicion.
An Impulsive Vow
Meanwhile, Li Xiaoxiao’s life is turned upside down. Song Ran, who had vanished for several days, reappears with an arsenal of commitment: a property deed, a car title, and bank cards, all of which he promises to put in her name. Stunned by the overwhelming gesture, and moved by his earnestness, Xiaoxiao makes a shocking, impulsive decision. The two head straight to the Civil Affairs Bureau and get married. The reality of her new status as a married woman doesn't hit her until she's in a taxi, where she breaks down in a flood of tears, completely bewildered by her own actions.
A Moment of Grace and a Final Break
The episode briefly cuts to Qian Hao's parents. His mother, Qin Sulan, tries to get a glass of water without waking her husband, but drops it. He wakes and gently helps her drink. Tearfully, she tells him it's the first time in their lives he has ever been so kind to her—a moment of quiet tenderness that stands in stark contrast to their son's violent rampage.
Back at the hospital, Hu Xiaojiao awakens. Qian Hao, filled with remorse, apologizes and confesses that he now realizes he truly loves her. But it's too late. Xiaojiao tells him her heart is dead; there is no love left.
The episode closes on these multiple cliffhangers: Li Xiaoxiao arrives at Kaixin's door, desperate to talk about her flash marriage. Mei Chengyi, meanwhile, checks his phone, puzzled that he hasn't been removed from a work group chat, and calls a colleague to inquire about a decision from his boss, a reminder that professional pressures still loom. The stage is set for a series of emotional reckonings as the characters grapple with the consequences of their actions.
