Full Recap
The Truth from Nine Years Ago
The episode opens with a flashback to nine years prior in the Pingkang Fang district. Lu Huan, acting on orders from the Left Chancellor, was tasked with eliminating Secretary Zheng, who had betrayed their faction by handing a list of the Left Chancellor's loyalists to an envoy of the Right Chancellor. At the same time, a young Yun Qing, having been caught after an escape attempt, was being forced to serve the lecherous envoy. When the envoy assaulted her, Lu Huan intervened, killing the envoy and his guards in a swift, bloody confrontation that left him wounded. After dispatching Secretary Zheng, Lu Huan tried to pay Yun Qing to disappear, but she refused the money, driven solely by a desire for revenge. Seeing her determination, he took her in, forging the powerful bond they share in the present.
The Pain of Betrayal
A Mi Ta finally tracks down A-Tu, who confesses the devastating truth: it was He Youguang who set the fire that killed her father, the pirate leader Hai Hu. Enraged, A Mi Ta confronts He Youguang, and their forces clash violently. During the fight, Lan Yu shields A Mi Ta from an arrow fired by He Youguang and is gravely injured. Yun Qing's men intervene, rescuing A Mi Ta and the wounded Lan Yu.
At their hideout, Lan Yu confesses she has been He Youguang's informant all along. The betrayal cuts A Mi Ta to the core, as she considered Lan Yu a sister. Though Lan Yu begs for forgiveness, A Mi Ta cannot grant it. Yun Qing explains He Youguang's manipulations, revealing he only valued A Mi Ta as a pawn because of her lineage. Listing his many crimes, Yun Qing proposes they join forces to destroy him, finally revealing her own allegiance to the Left Chancellor.
A Glimmer of Hope for the Lychees
Good news arrives for Li Shande. Yan Yazhuang returns from scouting the secret route through the Dayu Ridge, confirming it's a shortcut that saves two full days of travel. This development is a game-changer. Combined with the recent success of Li Shande and A-Tong's experiments—which have extended the lychees' freshness to eleven days—the mission is suddenly feasible again, even with the two-day detour forced by recent floods. Overjoyed, Li Shande decides he must personally accompany the transport team back to Chang'an. The local Dong people, led by A-Tong, celebrate the breakthrough and begin harvesting the largest lychees for the journey.
The Botched Heist
Remembering that He Youguang's incriminating ledgers are kept in his study, guarded by the gambling-addicted Manager Niu, A Mi Ta devises a plan. Zheng Ping'an approaches Lan Ge, the owner of a local cockfighting den, and informs him that He Youguang was responsible for his family's ruin. Fueled by rage, Lan Ge agrees to help. They stage a high-stakes cockfight to lure Manager Niu and the other guards away from the study. However, just as Yun Qing's agents move in, Niu senses something is amiss and rushes back. The plan fails, and a furious He Youguang orders Zhao Xinmin to burn all the account books, erasing the evidence.
A Desperate Gamble on Chang'an
Refusing to be defeated, A Mi Ta, who personally handled many of the accounts, resolves to go to Chang'an and expose He Youguang directly to the Left Chancellor. Zheng Ping'an implores a hesitant Li Shande to let her join the lychee convoy, arguing that taking down the Right Chancellor's faction is their only path to true justice. Li Shande reluctantly agrees, disguising A Mi Ta as one of his riders. Meanwhile, the foreign merchant Su Liang risks everything, selling his own ships to fellow merchant Xiao Yunchuan to raise the final funds needed for Li Shande's mission, despite warnings of He Youguang's potential retaliation. With funding secured, Li Shande finalizes his transport plan, set to depart in two days.
A Tense Departure
The day of departure arrives with a clever deception. Yun Qing leaves the city in a carriage, with Lan Yu posing as A Mi Ta to act as a decoy. As expected, Zhao Xinmin takes the bait and gives chase. At the same time, Lan Ge drives a cart loaded with chickens toward the city gate, with the real A Mi Ta hidden inside. When guards stop the cart, Zheng Ping'an uses his connections to smooth things over, and Lan Ge claims the chickens are for He Youguang himself. The guards, distracted by the pursuit of Yun Qing's carriage, wave Lan Ge through. A Mi Ta has escaped the city, but with Zhao Xinmin's forces on high alert, the road to Chang'an is fraught with peril.
