"Abyss Dweller" Episode 15 Recap & Spoilers: A Desperate Proposal

With the anti-Japanese resistance's plans in jeopardy, Liang Shuo must navigate a web of betrayal, a sudden ambush, and a life-threatening injury that lands him in the one place he can't afford to be: a Japanese military hospital.

A Sudden Change of Plans

The episode opens with Liang Shuo in a tense meeting with the calculating Mizuho Genxin, who reveals he is moving the date of the Peace Conference forward by two days. Mizuho suspects that resistance fighters plan to strike during the event and sees this as an opportunity to disrupt their operations and capture them. The news sends a chill through Liang Shuo; the resistance's entire "Trinity Plan" is now at risk, and he must get a warning out immediately.

Meanwhile, Lu Xijian is haunted by nightmares, cracking under the pressure of Operation Snow Blind. He receives a chilling directive from his superior, Xie Jun'an: if their operative "Shadow" is alive, Lu Xijian must protect him at all costs. If Shadow is dead, Lu Xijian must sacrifice himself to become the new Shadow.

Ambush and a Narrow Escape

Leaving the meeting, Liang Shuo is immediately tailed by Gu Zhentian and his men, who are bent on avenging the death of Yan Jiu. When Xie Nianci unexpectedly appears, Liang Shuo quickly pulls her into a teahouse to shield her from the danger. He tries to draw the attackers away on his own, but the situation escalates. The ever-resourceful Jiang Feiman gets Xie Nianci to safety and hands her a pistol for protection before calling the police.

The chase ends in violence. In a moment of hesitation, Liang Shuo is struck in the head by one of Gu Zhentian's men and collapses, severely wounded. Xie Nianci rushes to his side, and as he fades into unconsciousness, he urgently tells her to find Jiang Feiman and warn her that the Trinity Plan is compromised.

Waking Up in the Lion's Den

Xie Nianci manages to get the bleeding Liang Shuo onto a rickshaw, racing to find a hospital while Jiang Feiman stays behind to manage the fallout. With Gu Zhentian's men still in pursuit, Xie Nianci uses Liang Shuo's official credentials to get help from the police, leading to Gu Zhentian's arrest.

Liang Shuo awakens to find himself in a hospital bed with Xie Nianci watching over him. His relief quickly turns to dread when he realizes they are in a Japanese Army Hospital. He knows their enemies, particularly the sharp-witted Hirata Kiko, will be highly suspicious of how he, a supposed collaborator, was rescued by Xie Nianci. He tells her she must leave at once and, if questioned, claim they are romantically involved.

A Proposal Under Pressure

Just as predicted, Hirata Kiko arrives with Director Cui to question Liang Shuo. They find Xie Nianci in the hallway, and she leads them to the room, where she and Liang Shuo instinctively hold hands to sell their story. As Hirata Kiko interrogates Xie Nianci about how they met, the two nervously recall their first encounter at a train station. Simultaneously, Jiang Feiman successfully relays Liang Shuo's urgent message to her contact, confirming that the Peace Conference is a trap.

After the questioning, Liang Shuo makes a bold and desperate move. In front of Director Cui and Hirata Kiko, he asks them to bear witness as he pulls out a ring and proposes to a stunned Xie Nianci. It’s a public declaration designed to solidify their cover story, binding them together in a dangerous deception as their enemies watch their every move.

In "Abyss Dweller" Episode 15, the date of the Peace Conference is suddenly moved up by Mizuho Genxin, putting the resistance's plans in peril. While trying to relay this critical information, Liang Shuo is ambushed by Gu Zhentian's men and sustains a severe head injury. He is rescued by Xie Nianci and taken to a Japanese Army Hospital. Waking up in enemy territory, and to deflect suspicion from the inquisitive Hirata Kiko, Liang Shuo makes a desperate move: he publicly proposes to Xie Nianci to create a convincing cover story for their relationship.
