Abyss Dweller E06 Recap & Spoilers: A Cornered Man's Gambit

The walls are closing in on Liang Shuo. Accused of treason and murder, his back against the wall, he's forced to make a desperate move that will either save him or seal his fate. This week, the web of deceit at No. 76 grows more tangled as a shocking autopsy report and a fabricated conspiracy theory throw the entire operation into chaos.

An Autopsy Report Ignites a Firestorm

The episode kicks off with Hirata Kiko dropping a bombshell: a new autopsy report from the Yulong Mountain incident directly contradicts the initial findings. There was no mysterious "sixth man" at the scene. With this new evidence, she publicly confronts Liang Shuo, insinuating that he was, in fact, the killer. Seizing the opportunity, his rival Chen Gengsheng immediately piles on, accusing Liang Shuo of being an anti-Japanese operative and attempting to solidify the charge of treason.

A Story of Betrayal and Survival

Forced to defend himself, Liang Shuo recounts the harrowing truth of the prisoner transport mission from twenty days prior. He reveals that his partner, Ma Yu'an, was a traitor—a mole for the Military-Statistics Bureau. The guards on the transport were Ma's accomplices. During the mission, Ma and his men turned on him, attempting to free the high-value prisoner, Yan Jiu. In the ensuing chaos, the vehicle overturned. Alone and outnumbered, Liang Shuo fought back, killing the entire squad of traitors. He clarifies that Yan Jiu was killed by a stray bullet in the crossfire, a fact that a Japanese autopsy can confirm.

To prove the desperation of his struggle, Liang Shuo strips off his shirt in front of the assembly, revealing a torso covered in scars. The visceral proof of his past battles silences the room, but Chen Gengsheng remains unconvinced, questioning why Liang Shuo failed to report back to headquarters immediately. Liang Shuo coldly retorts, "If Ma Yu'an's identity as a mole wasn't public, my return would have been a suicide mission."

The "Scorpio Project" Gambit

Just as he seems to have gained the upper hand, Hirata Kiko brings in Japanese soldiers who identify Liang Shuo at two locations he shouldn't have been: the Ruijin Building and the Tailong Trading Company. Cornered again, Liang Shuo thinks fast, concocting a brilliant lie. He claims his unauthorized movements were part of a secret investigation into a master conspirator codenamed "Scorpio," the very person he believes orchestrated the Military-Statistics Bureau's infiltration of their ranks.

He demands a private meeting with the Director and Hirata, where he lays out his theory. The bold maneuver works. He temporarily shifts suspicion away from himself, and the Director, furious at Chen Gengsheng for his overreach, punishes him on the spot. Liang Shuo, however, is not entirely free; he is confined to his office at headquarters under house arrest.

A Tangled Web of Secrets

While Liang Shuo is contained, the other players make their moves. Director Cui quietly warns Chen Gengsheng to tread carefully. Confined to his office, Liang Shuo puts on a calm facade while frantically digging through classified personnel files, searching for any clue that could lead him to the real traitor in No. 76.

Meanwhile, Director Cui's investigation into Liang Shuo's ex-lover, Jiang Feiman, hits a snag: a key witness, Xie Nianci, has mysteriously disappeared. Adding another layer of intrigue, a black-market intelligence dealer named Gu Chengchun approaches Jiang Feiman, offering a high price for any information she has on Liang Shuo.

The pressure on Liang Shuo intensifies when Director Cui, under the Director's orders, assigns a rookie agent to monitor him. Liang Shuo cleverly uses the situation to his advantage, manipulating the newcomer to gain access to the complete personnel archives of No. 76. Elsewhere, the captured Lu Xijian is brutally tortured by the ruthless Mizuho Genxin but refuses to break. The episode ends on a chilling note as Mizuho, with a sinister smile, reveals a secret telegram, signaling that a new, psychological phase of interrogation is about to begin.

Lingering Questions

The net is tightening around everyone at No. 76. Will Liang Shuo find a clue about the real "Scorpio" in the archives, or will his lie unravel? What devastating information is contained in the telegram held by Mizuho? And who is the true buyer behind Gu Chengchun's offer for intel on Liang Shuo? The answers are buried deep within the shadows of the organization, waiting to be unearthed.
