Fancy Land Episode 12 Recap: A Mother's Final Farewell

This week, the net tightens around Li Xiulan as her time on the run with her daughter comes to a heart-wrenching end. While Qin Yang closes in, Li Xiulan fights to give her daughter one last moment of peace, leading to a devastating confrontation and a shocking twist in the interrogation room.

A Desperate Alliance and a Growing Suspicion

The episode kicks off with detectives Qin Yang and Sun Mou tracking down Wang Guocheng. The moment he spots Qin Yang, Wang Guocheng panics and flees, dropping the food he was carrying. Despite his bad leg, he makes a run for it, but Qin Yang quickly catches up. Pinned down, Wang Guocheng swears he hasn't seen Li Xiulan, passionately defending her and her family as good people who have never done anything wrong. Qin Yang coldly retorts that "good" isn't for him to decide. The detective's sharp eyes then notice something crucial: Wang Guocheng's car is missing. When pressed about its whereabouts, Wang Guocheng shuts down, refusing to say another word. His silence speaks volumes, and Qin Yang knows he's hiding something.

A Fugitive's Fear

Meanwhile, on the road, Li Xiulan is trying to keep things normal for her daughter, Li Yan. A flashback shows her humming a song to a much younger Li Yan, a stark contrast to their current reality. Pulled back to the present, Li Yan quietly asks her mother if she'll stay with her forever. Sensing her daughter's distress, Li Xiulan asks if someone has been bullying her, but Li Yan remains silent. Li Xiulan pulls her daughter into a tight embrace, promising she'll never leave.

Overcome with emotion, Li Yan confesses her fear and guilt, feeling she is a burden on her fugitive mother. Li Xiulan immediately shuts down the thought, insisting that her only worry is not taking good enough care of her daughter. Her overprotective nature, she explains, is just a mother's instinct to worry.

Their conversation is cut short by another anonymous phone call. The mysterious voice on the other end warns Li Xiulan that all the roads out of the city are blocked. "If you don't want to get caught, don't leave town," the voice says. Realizing she's being watched, Li Xiulan pulls over and walks toward a nearby patch of woods, where a figure waves at her. When she returns to the car, she's gripped by terror: Li Yan is gone. After a frantic search, her daughter reappears, holding something she just bought. Hiding her panic, Li Xiulan ushers a shaken Li Yan back into the car.

The Last Supper

Li Xiulan takes her daughter to a small restaurant. She orders several extra dishes, her words taking on a tone of finality. She reminds Li Yan to take her medicine on time and to cover herself with a blanket at night, telling her that she doesn't need her to be rich or successful—only safe and healthy. She even tells Li Yan she can quit her job at the kindergarten if it makes her unhappy. Finally, in a moment of profound love and foresight, Li Xiulan reveals she has saved 200,000 yuan for Li Yan to open her own piano store one day. It's a mother's final act of securing her daughter's future.

The Walls Close In

Outside the restaurant, the police have quietly surrounded the building. In a moment of grace, Qin Yang holds his team back, giving Li Xiulan a few precious minutes to finish her last words with her daughter. It's later revealed that Li Xiulan had already called the police to turn herself in.

Once the time is up, Qin Yang and his officers enter. He informs Li Xiulan she is under arrest and that Li Yan must also come to the station for questioning. As they lead her away, Li Xiulan stumbles, nearly falling. The sight shatters Li Yan's composure. In a gut-wrenching display of devotion, she frantically takes off her own shoes, trying to give them to her mother. Fighting back tears, Li Xiulan reassures her daughter, promising she'll walk more carefully from now on.

A Confession and an Unwelcome Surprise

In the interrogation room, Li Xiulan readily admits to kidnapping Bai Fan out of a personal grudge. But when Qin Yang presses her about Bai Tao's murder, she becomes evasive. Qin Yang plays his trump card, revealing that they found human tissue fibers under Bai Tao's fingernails. Just as he's about to intensify the pressure, the door opens. Li Xiulan's legal counsel has arrived. To Qin Yang's utter shock, the lawyer who walks in is none other than Lin Yi.
