As the "5.19" special task force begins its work, Hong Liang is consumed by guilt over his past mistakes, while the investigation into the Wanchuan Mine accident uncovers a web of conspiracy, leading to a tense arrest and a shocking discovery.

The episode opens with Zhang Fang officially signing off on Hong Liang's resignation. Hong Liang is instructed to hand over his duties to Cao Ye, a key member of the newly formed "5.19" special task force. This unit, operating out of the 11th Division, is dedicated to investigating corruption and criminal misconduct within the police, procuratorate, and judicial systems. Cao Ye has already prepared their new office space, setting the stage for the intense investigation to come.

Haunted by his mishandling of the "1.31" case, which he believes indirectly caused Qiao Zhenxing's death, Hong Liang suffers a psychological breakdown. He sits in an interrogation chair, imagining himself as the one being questioned, and becomes physically stuck. After Zheng Yaping finds him, he musters the courage to show her his written confession. A woman of uncompromising integrity, Zheng Yaping tells him to submit it directly to Zhang Fang. However, Hong Liang, aware that a prosecutor's misjudgment carries lifelong consequences, pleads for a chance to atone by helping solve the "5.19" case first. Reluctantly, Zheng Yaping agrees to hold onto his confession for the time being.

Meanwhile, the fallout from the Wanchuan Mine accident continues. Prison office director Wang Huashan tries to intimidate Wanhai, but panics when Wanhai mentions appealing his case. A worried Wang Huashan confronts his associate, Chen Shenglong, who seems unconcerned. This leads to a major revelation: years ago, after Yang Dayou committed an armed robbery at Wanchuan Mining, Sun Yihu was framed and executed for the crime. With the help of Yu Tiancheng, Wang Huashan arranged for Yang Dayou to fake his death from liver cancer and assume the new identity of Xiong Lei. When Xiong Lei and Wang Huashan get into a heated argument, Chen Shenglong is forced to intervene, exposing the deep-rooted conspiracy.

The task force gets its first major lead when Wan Chao reports that Jiang Hongjun helped destroy evidence for the true culprits of the Wanchuan Mine accident. Led by Cao Ye, the team meticulously tracks Jiang Hongjun's movements and plans his capture. As one team lies in wait at his home, another intercepts and arrests him at his daughter's school. After a brief chase, Jiang Hongjun is apprehended when he mistakenly jumps into Hong Liang's car.

The search of Jiang Hongjun's home initially turns up nothing. However, Cao Ye's sharp eye catches that the neighboring house has identical decorations. Questioning Jiang's wife, her nervous denial confirms his suspicions. Inside the second house, the team makes a stunning discovery: a refrigerator packed with enormous amounts of cash and gold bars.

As the net tightens, other players are on the move. Wan Chao, now a wanted man hunted by both the police and Chen Shenglong's forces, calls his brother, Wan Hong, for help. Wan Hong finds him in a deserted house and urges him to hide in an old mine shaft, but Wan Chao is adamant that the mine disaster was an act of sabotage.

In the interrogation room, Hong Liang confronts the captured Jiang Hongjun. Initially arrogant, Jiang Hongjun's confidence shatters when Hong Liang reveals that the task force has found his hidden fortune. This, combined with testimony from the old mine director confirming Jiang repaired the vehicle's brake pads after the incident, leaves the corrupt official cornered with nowhere to run.
