The episode ignites with a tense confrontation between Jiang Xudong and his son, Jiang Yuan. Jiang Yuan is determined to build a new energy base in Hongjia Village using the Wanchuan Mine, a project he has prepared for three years. Jiang Xudong, who once worked in Dongping, vehemently objects. The argument forces Jiang Yuan to play his trump card: the Wanchuan Mine was once the property of Yu Tiancheng. The name sends Jiang Xudong spiraling into a dark memory from fifteen years ago.
In a flashback, a drunk Jiang Yuan, with Yu Tiancheng in the car, accidentally hits and kills a pedestrian. Yu Tiancheng offers to take the fall, but his loyal follower, Chen Shenglong, steps in and serves a year in prison instead. In the aftermath, Jiang Xudong sent his son abroad, and as a form of twisted gratitude, he approved a mine for Yu Tiancheng.
The history of the mine is fraught with violence. Thirteen years ago, Wanhai forcibly took the mine from Yu Tiancheng, leading to a fierce conflict that even involved a gunfight, forcing Jiang Xudong to personally intervene. He made Yu Tiancheng give up the mine and leave Dongping. However, three years ago, Yu Tiancheng orchestrated a complex scheme to frame Wanhai, sending him to prison and getting the Wanchuan Mine shut down, all in an effort to reclaim it.
Unaware of this bloody history, Jiang Yuan, now back in China, sees Yu Tiancheng as a successful and reputable entrepreneur, the perfect partner for his new energy venture. When he praises Yu to his father, an enraged Jiang Xudong slaps him across the face. Jiang Xudong knows Yu Tiancheng is actually the true kingpin of Dongping's underworld, a ruthless killer. He desperately tries to warn his son, but Jiang Yuan feels he has invested too much and has no way out, leaving his father stunned and helpless.
Meanwhile, the special investigation team's work intensifies. Zheng Yaping attempts to persuade a defiant Wanhai to cooperate. She then seeks help from Zhang Wenjing, a woman made cynical by Dongping's corrupt justice system after being framed as a gang member herself. Though Zhang Wenjing is hesitant to get involved, Zheng Yaping remains hopeful she will eventually help.
The investigation makes a huge leap forward thanks to Xu Yanwu. He provides the team, represented by Song Yanchuan, with crucial files on the Wanchuan Mine accident and Qiao Zhenxing's autopsy report. Xu reveals he has long been suspicious but had to feign ignorance due to being surrounded by spies like Sun Fei and Xie Hongfei. He points out that many surveillance cameras were suspiciously turned off on the night of the mine accident.
At the forensic center, Song Yanchuan learns from Director Liu that Jiang Hongjun had visited. Surveillance footage confirms this. A major breakthrough comes when the lab matches a fluid sample from Qiao Zhenxing's body to the water in the fish tank at the Jinhai Karaoke Bar. Confronted with this evidence, Jiang Hongjun confesses everything. He admits that Sun Fei ordered him to swap the fluid sample with water from the Yongqing River to stage Qiao's death as a drowning. Jiang Hongjun details his history of doing dirty work for Sun Fei, receiving cash payments left in the trunk of his unlocked car, but he doesn't know who else is on Sun Fei's "ship."
The team also questions Zhou Biao, who, with encouragement from Hong Liang, reveals that Xiong Lei coerced him into framing Qiao Zhenxing. He was taken, blindfolded, to a place he only remembers for its terrible smell, which Song Yanchuan deduces was a garbage dump.
With Jiang Hongjun's arrest, Sun Fei panics. He seeks help from Lan Jingming, who offers no comfort and warns him not to expect any help from Jiang Xudong. Realizing he's cornered, Sun Fei rushes home, packs his bags, and books a flight from Haizhou to Hong Kong.
The team acts fast, alerting Hong Liang that Sun Fei is attempting to flee. Hong Liang tracks him down to a restaurant. Knowing the jig is up, Sun Fei makes a last-ditch effort to save himself by name-dropping Jiang Xudong, for whom he used to be a driver. Hong Liang is unimpressed and arrests him on the spot.
Back at headquarters, Sun Fei is interrogated by Zhang Huaien and Xiao Luo from The 11th Division. He refuses to cooperate or explain the fake passport found on him. The episode closes with Lan Jingming holding Xu Yanwu and Li Renjun accountable for the sudden arrests of two of their people.
