Alone at her bedside, Shen Yanqing reads the letter aloud. In it, Yanzhou urges her to cherish her life and to see the orange sapling he left her as a symbol of enduring hope. At the same time, Xiu Ju is lost in a dream where she is finally marrying Shen Yanzhou, with her mother lovingly dressing her hair. But the phantom of her beloved pushes her away, his voice merging with the words from the letter, telling her, "Don't be selfish and stay in this dream." The plea from both the real world and the dream world is enough to finally break through her grief, and Xiu Ju awakens.

Determined not to let down those who saved her, Xiu Ju throws herself into her work. She meticulously cares for the orange sapling and buries herself in the accounts of her jam business. Shen Yanqing, finding her engrossed in her ledgers, waits patiently before suggesting a trip to the city to inspect her shop. While Zhuang Hui dresses up, expecting to join them, she is left behind, forcing a smile and telling herself, "Xiu Ju's success is my success."
In the city, Shen Yanqing's intentions become clearer. Noticing Xiu Ju's interest in a perfume, he buys the entire counter's stock for her. In an even grander gesture, he rents a rickshaw and insists on pulling her through the streets himself, taking her directly to the "Number One Ju Jam Shop." The storefront is bustling, with her jams being shipped across the country. "This is a dream I helped you realize," he tells her, his quiet support having blossomed into a thriving enterprise.
The Dinner Party from Hell
Later, a welcome dinner for Shen Yanqing at the Shen mansion becomes a battlefield. The Second Madam, Liu Ruyan, seizes the opportunity to humiliate Xiu Ju, demanding she dance and sneering, "Don't let us see your country bumpkin ways."
Rattled, Xiu Ju retreats to the courtyard. She recalls Shen Yanzhou teaching her to dance and begins to move, for a moment feeling as if he were there with her. As she returns to a lonely reality, Shen Yanqing appears and offers his hand, taking his brother's place. The two dance with a chemistry that captivates the entire room, but the moment is shattered when Shen Yanqing suffers a severe asthma attack. Xiu Ju is struck with guilt, remembering Zhuang Hui's warning about his chronic illness.
Confessions and Threats
Once he recovers, Shen Yanqing’s feelings pour out. "Don't be like Zhuang Hui, compromising and suffering in silence," he gasps, "I just want you to be Xiu Ju." He leans in for a kiss, but they are interrupted.
Liu Ruyan corners Xiu Ju, wine in hand, and accuses her of seducing men. Xiu Ju fires back, "Only those with no self-respect are looked down upon." The barb hits its mark, and a furious Liu Ruyan reveals her own painful past: she was a dancer who, after being assaulted, was saved by Shen Yanqing.
