A Stormy Night and a Shocking Betrayal
Their happiness is short-lived. That night, a violent storm breaks out, threatening the fragile saplings. Xiu Ju rushes into the torrential rain to cover them, working until she collapses from exhaustion. It is Shen Yanqing who finds her and carries her away to get medical help, arriving just moments before a worried Shen Yanzhou. The love triangle is now firmly, and painfully, in place.
While Xiu Ju is unconscious, the drama within the Shen household intensifies. The First Madam is advised to secure her status by bearing a son, a clear move against the rising favor of the Second Madam, a former dancer named Liu Ruyan.
The episode culminates in a horrifying cliffhanger. After recovering and returning home, Xiu Ju is ambushed and kidnapped by her own brother. She awakens tied up in an unfamiliar room. Managing to break a bowl and use a shard to cut her ropes, her relief is cut short when a strange man enters. He coldly informs her that he has already "paid a high price" for her. Xiu Ju is now a prisoner, her fate hanging precariously in the balance.
