The drama intensifies in the second episode as new conflicts arise and old feelings lead to dangerous consequences. He Weifang finds herself the target of a vicious plot, testing her resilience and Jiang Changyang's dedication.
The episode opens with a personal challenge for Xiao Chun at the Huamanpu shop. Her disapproving father makes a surprise visit, not for treatment, but to reiterate his old-fashioned belief that a woman's only ambition should be marriage. Unwavering, Xiao Chun firmly rejects his views, declaring her passion for her medical career and her disinterest in marrying.
Meanwhile, Chuan Yu’s infatuation with He Weifang continues to be a source of minor friction. He follows her around like a puppy, much to Jiang Changyang's annoyance. When Chuan Yu tries to manipulate his way into sharing a carriage with Weifang by complaining about Jiang Changyang, his plan backfires. Weifang sees through his ploy and gently admonishes him for his dishonesty, though she skillfully diffuses the situation to spare him further embarrassment.
The plot takes a darker turn when Liu Chang, a figure from Weifang's past, arranges a private meeting by disguising himself as a boatman and locking her in a room. However, Weifang is no longer the timid Mudan he once knew. She confronts him with a newfound strength and composure, and he eventually lets her go. Jiang Changyang, ever watchful, notices the suspicious circumstances and finds a shaken Weifang. He comforts her, sweetly feeding her cherries and giving her a gift. The tender moment quickly lifts her spirits.
Unfortunately, Liu Chang witnesses this exchange, and a jealous rage consumes him. His strange behavior back home, including obsessively eating cherries, alerts his wife, the powerful Xianzhu. After questioning a servant, she uncovers the connection to He Weifang and orchestrates a cruel revenge. She bribes someone to accuse Weifang's shop of selling a fatal tonic, "Yunbin Dan," which has allegedly killed a local woman, Mistress Wu.
Chaos erupts as the victim's family brings the body to Weifang's shop, demanding justice. The authorities quickly arrive, shut down the business, and throw both Weifang and Xiao Chun into prison. Inside, they face brutal treatment. In a moment of profound loyalty, Weifang shields Xiao Chun with her own body from the guard's whip, enduring the lashes herself.
Jiang Changyang rushes to the prison, but Weifang refuses his help, afraid of implicating him. Undeterred, Jiang Changyang, with the help of his trusted aide Da Fu, launches his own investigation. In just one day, he uncovers the truth. He goes directly to the Xianzhu, calmly but firmly laying out the political consequences of her actions. He warns her that if she doesn't release Weifang, he will expose the entire affair to the King (Dawang), which would destroy her husband Liu Chang's career.Fearing for her husband, the Xianzhu relents, agreeing to free Weifang and restore the reputation of her shop.
