When He Weifang learns of Jiang Changyang's imprisonment, she is overcome with anxiety. With the help of Qingxi and an edict from the Grand Princess, she manages to visit him in his cell under the guise of delivering a meal. Jiang Changyang wastes no time, urgently warning her to be wary of Liu Chang and the County Princess.

His warning clicks everything into place for Weifang. Realizing Liu Chang intends to raid Jiang Changyang's shops, she sends her servant, Dafu, to give them a heads-up to hide the account books. To buy time, Weifang throws herself in front of Liu Chang's carriage, feigning a sprained ankle. Amused, Liu Chang plays the part of a gentleman and invites her into his carriage, but instead of taking her to the Qingshu Study, he drives her home. He reveals that he has already intercepted Dafu, foiling her plan.

Trapped, Weifang remembers a special palace lantern Jiang Changyang had given her. Each of its four sides corresponds to a different property. As instructed, she hangs the lantern with the correct side facing out, signaling that the residence is in peril. Jiang Changyang's loyal men see the signal and immediately seek help from Xuexi, who implores her father to intervene.

Just as Liu Chang arrives with soldiers to ransack the residence, he finds He Weifang blocking the entrance alone. She holds a sword gifted by the Emperor himself, refusing to stand down without an imperial search warrant. When Liu Chang tries to force his way in, she draws the blade and holds it to his throat, stopping him in his tracks.

At that critical moment, a messenger from Xuexi arrives with news: the Emperor has released Jiang Changyang. His only punishment is a fine of six months' salary for mismanagement. The crisis is averted by a threadbare margin.

Back home, Jiang Changyang praises Weifang for her incredible courage. Humbly, she gives most of the credit to Xuexi. Later, as a thank you, Weifang gifts Xuexi some expensive skincare, including scar removal cream. Xuexi cleverly asks if the cream would work on a decade-old scar. After Weifang leaves, Xuexi confronts Jiang Changyang. She deduces their marriage is a sham because Weifang is unaware of an old scar on his arm, one that would only be visible to someone truly intimate with him. Cornered, Jiang Changyang admits the truth and asks her to keep their secret.

Meanwhile, the County Princess, consumed by jealousy after hearing Liu Chang made large purchases at Weifang's shop, takes her revenge. She orders men to douse the shop's perimeter with flammable oil late at night. Inside, Weifang and her staff are celebrating, slightly drunk and unaware of the danger. A massive fire erupts, engulfing the shop in flames. Liu Chang, who was already there, waits for the fire to worsen, planning to stage a heroic rescue. However, before he can act, the County Princess arrives with her own soldiers, forbidding him from intervening. For the sake of their own marriage, she declares, He Weifang must die tonight.
