Homeland Guardian Episode 3: A Tangled Web of Conspiracies
The investigation into the Sau Shan Village explosion intensifies as Officer Ho Ho-fai confronts Chan Yiu-yeung with a crucial discovery: the explosion was a targeted attack, not an accident. Ho reveals he saw the suspect, a Chinese man with a distinctive tattoo identical to Chow Hung's, suggesting a professional killer was at work and the villagers were merely collateral damage. This forces a reluctant Chan to agree to share intelligence, revealing their primary suspect is a man named Gordon.
The episode also delves into the personal lives of the officers. Chiu Siu-tong returns home to a distressing scene where his wife, Hung, is in the midst of an Alzheimer's episode, a clear sign of her worsening condition. He handles the situation with gentle care, masking his deep concern. Meanwhile, a rift forms between Siu Fung and his son, Shiu Tsz-chun, who resents his father’s admiration for Ho Ho-fai.
Following an inquiry into the explosion, Ho's "Car 3" team stands by him, corroborating his story that he briefly left his post to pursue triad members he spotted at the scene. In a moment of vulnerability, Ho's ex-wife, Choi Cheuk-yan, confides in her cousin that their son's emotional issues in Canada, stemming from his father's absence, prompted their return to Hong Kong—a fact Ho remains completely unaware of.
The manhunt for Gordon escalates. Gordon, trying to retrieve a package left by his girlfriend, narrowly escapes an ambush by Ah Ken's thugs. At the same post office, Chung Lan-kwun is also searching for Gordon, leading to a chaotic brawl that ends in police custody. Ho secures Chung's release by claiming she is his informant, but his frustration grows when she refuses to explain her motives.
The plot thickens when Gordon contacts journalist Lam Wai-yin. He returns her car and makes a desperate plea for help, claiming to have uncovered a massive conspiracy that could "destroy Hong Kong." Lam agrees to help, hiding him in a rental unit. There, Gordon realizes a critical USB drive is now with Lee Tai-nin, the cousin of his late girlfriend, Lee Ho-yi.
Multiple parties converge on Lee Tai-nin's new address. Ho, tipped off by Chan, heads there alone but is tailed by a now-intrigued Shiu Tsz-chun, who decides to join the investigation. At the same time, the gangster Ah Ken also locates Lee and informs a woman named Anna. The episode closes with Gordon entering Lee's residence, while Ho and Shiu Tsz-chun prepare to sneak in from the back, fully aware of the high-stakes danger that awaits.
