After leaving, Jiang Qiaoxi's contact with the Qunshan squad gradually faded. For a while, he and Ying Tao were the exception, often spending hours on the phone. But eventually, even those calls stopped. Qin Yeyun tried to comfort Ying Tao, remarking that nothing Jiang Qiaoxi did could surprise her anymore.

As the college entrance exams approached, everyone was consumed by intense studying. Ying Tao sent a stream of text messages to Jiang Qiaoxi but never received a reply. It wasn't until after her exams were over that a single congratulatory message finally appeared on her phone. At that moment, she was celebrating with the entire Qunshan squad and their families at a restaurant. Overjoyed, she immediately tried to call him back, only to find the line unreachable. A shadow of worry crossed the parents' faces, hinting at a secret they were keeping from the children.

Distraught by the silence, Ying Tao went to Jiang Qiaoxi's house, even bringing jujube steamed buns. An old woman approached and told her that Jiang Qiaoxi's parents had moved away. Panicked that he would have no home to return to, Ying Tao was slightly relieved when the woman assured her the house was still his and he could come back anytime.

Later, Class Monitor Feng invited Ying Tao to the "Little White Building" to pick something up. She initially wanted to refuse but agreed, wanting to see the place where Jiang Qiaoxi used to sit. Seizing the opportunity, Feng confessed his feelings, hoping to take their relationship to the next level. However, Ying Tao gently turned him down. Feng understood that her heart belonged to Jiang Qiaoxi.

That evening, Ying Tao found herself back at Jiang Qiaoxi's house, reminiscing about the times they shared there. As she was about to leave, she saw him. Dressed in black with a matching hat, he was emerging from the house with a suitcase. He looked weathered and weary. She called out his name. In a moment of courage, Ying Tao closed the distance and kissed him. Jiang Qiaoxi held her tightly, pleading with her not to forget him. In that embrace, he deftly snatched the amber necklace from her neck, a move she didn't notice, lost in the joy of their reunion.

He mentioned a craving for lotus root clamps and jujube steamed buns, so Ying Tao offered to take him to her home. Jiang Qiaoxi deliberately left his suitcase behind. When they arrived downstairs at her apartment building, he claimed he needed to go back for his luggage and told her to wait for him inside. It was just an excuse to leave.

After waiting for a long time at home, Ying Tao realized he wasn't coming back. Her calls went unanswered. She ran downstairs in a panic, only to find the street empty. Jiang Qiaoxi was gone.

Her parents later found her crying by the side of the road and brought her home. She was heartbroken, deceived by him once again.

Soon, it was time for everyone to leave for university. The five families gathered for a farewell meal. Ying Tao and Yu Qiao were headed to the same city, while Du Shang and Cai Fangyuan were both off to Shanghai. Only Qin Yeyun decided to stay, having chosen a local school so she could remain close to her father.
