The Immortal Ascension-Han Li

Yang Yang as Han Li

Han Li, played by Yang Yang, is the protagonist of The Immortal Ascension. Hailing from Wu Li Gou, a small village in the State of Yue, he is the fourth child of a common family of the Yan Clan. With an ordinary appearance and dark skin, his childhood nickname was "Er Leng Zi."

His life takes a dramatic turn when his third uncle introduces him to the local Seven Mysteries Sect. There, it is discovered that he possesses a spiritual root, a rare gift that allows for immortal cultivation. Though his root is a deficient, four-element type (lacking metal), it is enough for him to practice the "Eternal Spring Arts." Taking notice, the enigmatic Doctor Mo accepts him as a disciple, setting Han Li upon the long and arduous path to immortality.

Han Li is defined by his cautious, low-key demeanor and a resilient, adaptable mind. He relies on his own relentless effort and key opportunities to navigate the treacherous world of cultivators. His journey is a testament to perseverance, as he rises from a mortal boy with mediocre aptitude to a supreme power.

Through immense hardship, he ascends from the Mortal Realm to the Spirit Realm and eventually reaches the North Cold Immortal Realm. Their paths first cross under perilous circumstances in the Blood-Colored Prohibited Area. From there, their relationship endures a long and difficult journey filled with numerous challenges.

A key aspect of her story is her cultivation of the "Samsara Arts of the Pure Maiden," a unique technique that causes her magical power to fluctuate, leaving her vulnerable at regular intervals. Despite these trials, her personality is a blend of gentle, deep-seated affection and a bold spirit that allows her to love fiercely and hate resolutely. Through her perseverance, Nangong Wan ultimately achieves a supreme level of power, reaching the peak of the Taiyi Realm.

Her participation in the brutal "Blood-Colored Trial," a choice forced upon her by the need for a Foundation Establishment Pill, left her with a colder, more aloof personality.

At one point, she revealed her true feelings to Han Li. However, faced with a marriage alliance arranged by her family, she ultimately turned to the demonic path and remained alone for the rest of her life.

The Immortal Ascension-Mo Caihuan

His life took a decisive turn after he witnessed a battle between celestial beings. Awed and shaken by their immense power, he became singularly focused on discovering the path to immortality. To pursue this ambition in secret, he adopted the alias Mo Daifu and took refuge in the unassuming Qi Xuan Sect.

As an early antagonist in the story, Mo Daifu's relationship with the protagonist, Han Li, is central to the initial plot. He accepts Han Li as his disciple, but his mentorship is a facade for a sinister plan: to ultimately seize Han Li's body and use it to continue his own quest for eternal life. However, his scheme is thwarted when Han Li uncovers the plot and is forced to kill him in a confrontation.
