Legend of the Female General Episode 26: A Reckoning in Rundu
So, let's talk about what went down in Rundu. After He Yan rescued those women from the Wutuo camp, you'd think they'd get a hero's welcome. Nope. Their own families refused to take them back, saying they brought shame to the family by "serving the enemy." He Yan was absolutely disgusted by this. She pointed out that if they were men, they'd probably be celebrated as heroes. She even got into it with Qi Luo, who just couldn't shake off those old, deeply ingrained ideas.
Then things get worse. The commander, Li Kuang, decides he wants to use these same traumatized women as a vanguard—basically, human shields to trick the Wutuo army. Qi Luo begged him not to, but he wouldn't listen. When He Yan heard about this insane plan, she galloped to the city gate to stop them from opening it.She publicly called out Li Kuang, telling him he was a coward for pointing his sword at the weak.Just then, Xiao Jue shows up and completely backs her up.
Inspired by their stand, the soldiers of Rundu decided to fight to the death. They came up with a pretty clever plan: launch fireballs to create a massive smokescreen, shower the Wutuo with arrows, and then charge in while they're disoriented.In the chaos of the battle, He Yan and Xiao Jue worked together, aiming straight for the Wutuo commander, Naguer. Naguer, in a desperate move, used his own men to block He Yan's sword.
He Yan didn't kill him on the first try, so she vanished into the smoke to try for a surprise attack. While she was doing this, Xiao Jue was busy holding off the bulk of the Wutuo forces. For a second, He Yan couldn't find him and panicked, thinking he was either hurt or dead. That moment of distraction was all Naguer needed to sneak up behind her. But just as he was about to strike, Xiao Jue appeared like a hero out of nowhere, killed Naguer, and saved He Yan's life.
Overcome with relief, He Yan ran up and hugged Xiao Jue right there on the battlefield.With Naguer dead, the Wutuo army fell into chaos. To seal the deal, Yan He arrived with reinforcements, securing the victory. It turns out, Xiao Jue had planned ahead and sent his man Fei Nu to get Yan He's army from Yezhou. Seeing He Yan in action, Li Kuang mentioned how much she reminded him of the famous General He Rufei, having no idea that she is, in fact, the real He Rufei.
Later, Xiao Jue took He Yan aside and pulled out the purse and letter she had left for him.He asked her what they meant, and they finally cleared the air. All the misunderstandings between them dissolved. Xiao Jue promised that from now on, he would always trust her and face whatever comes their way together. Even Fei Nu apologized to He Yan for ever doubting her, which she graciously accepted.
He Yan is now fully focused on her next move: returning to the capital to expose the imposter He Rufei and reclaim her name and title as the one and only General Feihong.
