"When Destiny Brings the Demon" Episode 15: The Fish Prince

Episode 15 of When Destiny Brings the Demon begins with Liao Tingyan actually starting to miss Sima Jiao. When he suddenly shows up at a noisy banquet, she can't help but feel a rush of joy. Sima Jiao, seeing how uncomfortable she is, pulls her right out of there. When he hears she hasn't eaten, he arranges a private feast just for her, and Liao Tingyan is more than happy to dig in.

Sima Jiao points out that, with her cultivation level, she doesn't really need to eat. But Liao Tingyan argues that life's simple pleasures, like food, are what create happiness. During their chat, she realizes with a dawning horror that Sima Jiao seems to know exactly what she's thinking—including all her secret complaints about him. She wonders how he can hear her thoughts without his truth-telling spell and suspects it might be because she once entered his "Shenfu," or spiritual core.

The next day, her teacher at the academy gives a very serious lesson about the Shenfu. He warns the class to never, ever enter another person's Shenfu, as it is the most vital part of a person. If two people's cores become linked through attachment, they become inseparable. If one dies, the other cannot survive alone. This terrifies Liao Tingyan, who now starts to grasp the terrifying depth of her connection to her grandmaster and questions if she'll ever be able to leave him.

Meanwhile, Shi Qianlv is hunting for Sima Jiao. He finds a scale belonging to Nian Jiu and uses it to pressure Ye Ruling. Since they are now allies in their quest to kill Sima Jiao, Ye Ruling is forced to give up Nian Jiu. Shi Qianlv punishes Nian Jiu severely, but Ye Ruling later takes pity and secretly lets him go, unaware that Shi Qianlv has placed a tracking spell on him.

Shi Qianlv's men find Sima Jiao, but he easily overpowers them and turns them into his puppets, effectively planting his own spies. Exhausted and still recovering from his injuries, Sima Jiao returns to the Gengchen Immortal Mansion. The sight of Liao Tingyan waiting for him in a pavilion warms his heart, and his fatigue melts away.

Wanting to grant her any wish, he asks what she wants to do most. She blurts out "mō yú," which is slang for "slacking off" but literally means "to touch fish." Taking her completely literally, the ever-so-direct Sima Jiao immediately takes her to a cold pond known for its delicious fish and jumps in to catch some for her, determined to give her the best fish-touching experience possible.
