This Thriving Land: The Siege of Tianniu Temple
Alright, so here's the deal with what went down in Tianniu Temple Village. The bandit leader, Hu San, is still fuming about Ning Xiuxiu escaping his mountain stronghold. He decides he's going to get her back, so he sends one of his contacts in the village, Feng Si, to do some recon.
The problem is, Xiuxiu is sharp. She immediately recognizes that the two "nephews" Feng Si brings with him are actually bandits. She gets word to Ning Kejin, who leads the village's defense force. Kejin and his men act fast, capturing Feng Si and his buddies. But the good news ends there—Feng Si reveals that Hu San and his entire gang have already surrounded the village. Their goal: drag Xiuxiu back to Rooster Ridge.
Kejin rallies every man over fifteen to defend the village entrance. They try to force Feng Si to talk Hu San down, but Feng Si just curses them out. So, Kejin has him tied up and even brings Feng Si's own wife and kids out to pressure him. It doesn't work. Feng Si, completely loyal to the bandits, screams for Hu San to attack.
Hu San's voice booms over a loudspeaker. He tells the whole village that Xiuxiu's escape was a massive dishonor to his gang because she's the only woman who ever left his mountain "pure." He can't swallow this insult and vows to get her back, threatening to assault every woman in the village if they don't hand her over.
This, of course, just makes the villagers furious. Kejin grabs a loudspeaker and yells right back that they'll wipe out every last bandit. While the men stand guard, the women, led by Xiuxiu and her friend Yinzi, start reinforcing the village's mud walls.
Things get even more intense when Hu San brings in hostages from a neighboring village—people who have relatives inside Tianniu Temple. He forces them to start tearing down the village walls from the outside. The hostages try to work slowly, but the bandits fire warning shots to speed them up.
As the wall starts to crumble, Kejin has no choice but to order an attack. A fierce battle breaks out. Hu San tries to bluff, claiming his boss, Big Nose Du, is on the way with reinforcements, and uses the hostages as human shields. Amid the chaos, Kejin is knocked from his horse by a cannon blast. While trying to rescue a child, Xiuxiu is captured by Hu San.
With Xiuxiu as his hostage, Hu San demands the villagers open the gates. To save everyone, Xiuxiu agrees to talk with him. At the same time, Feng Si's brother, Feng Er, drags the traitorous Feng Si to the wall, begging him to plead for Xiuxiu's life. Instead, Feng Si screams for Hu San to kill the village elder, Ning Xuexiang. In a fit of rage, Xuexiang shoves Feng Si off the wall.
Xiuxiu, seeing no other way out, threatens to kill herself unless Hu San lets the villagers go. He agrees, but just as he's about to take her away, Big Foot Feng appears out of nowhere and takes him hostage. She forces Hu San to release Xiuxiu.
As the villagers pull Xiuxiu back to safety, the dying Feng Si makes a last, desperate attempt to save Big Foot Feng and is riddled with bullets by the bandits. As Big Foot Feng rushes to his side, Kejin orders his men to open fire. Just then, Guo Guiyao arrives with reinforcements, and together, they finally drive the bandits away.
