The Search in 2026

Our guy Yu Nian is on the move. He figured out that the old Meiwan Town is now a place called Puhsui City. So, he heads there to look for his dad and any trace of Ye Haitang.

Before he leaves, some guy shows up looking for his dad. This person doesn't buy the "he just vanished" story. He thinks Yu Nian is hiding his father. Yu Nian's pregnant sister arrives just in time and basically tells the guy to get lost.

A Reluctant Alliance

Yu Nian’s search hits a wall at the police station. The cops won't give him any info on Ye Haitang. He isn't a relative, so they can't help. Just as he's leaving, he runs into Ye Haitang's son. He was also at the station, trying to find his mom.

They start talking. It turns out the son knows almost nothing about his own mother. Yu Nian gets pretty annoyed. He feels like this guy is no help at all. But right before he leaves for good, Yu Nian has an idea. They should check Ye Haitang's house.

Inside, they find a box. It's identical to the one Yu Nian's father left behind. They open it and find letters. Yu Nian thinks the handwriting looks familiar. Ye Haitang's son is skeptical, though. He points out that the letters look way too new to be twenty years old. He even accuses Yu Nian of not telling the whole truth. Despite the bad start, they decide to team up to find her.

Back in 1991

The past is just as chaotic. The entire school is talking about Ye Haitang. Rumors are flying that she's some kind of killer who carries a knife. Some students can't believe it. She's always been so quiet.

Schoolyard Drama

Tang Yixun steps in and tells the gossips to shut up. Just then, Ye Haitang walks into class, and everyone just stares. It gets worse. Her father, Ye Yibo, shows up at the school. He starts a huge scene and completely humiliates her in front of everyone.

Tang Yixun has seen enough. He punches Ye Yibo. This brings the principal out, who apologizes to the father. But Ye Yibo just soaks it up and plays the victim. The homeroom teacher is furious with Tang Yixun for fighting. He doesn't care that Ye Yibo is a terrible person. He just lectures Tang Yixun about bringing bad habits to school and kicks him out.

Ye Haitang tries to defend him. She even threatens to go to the principal. The teacher warns her to stop, or they could both get expelled.

Paying the Price

The school expels Tang Yixun. His boss, Li Chadong, is angry when he finds out. He's also dealing with another problem. Two of his guys have picked a fight with someone named A Bao, who is apparently very dangerous.

Later, Tang Yixun finds Ye Haitang at the library. After he stood up for her, she sees him differently now. He gives her the class fees he owed.

The trouble isn't over, though. A Bao's boss finds Li Chadong. He's angry that Tang Yixun interfered with his business. To protect Tang Yixun from a worse fate, Li Chadong is forced to beat him up in front of the boss's crew.
