Growing Together: Episode 10 Recap

You know, just when you think the parents are the ones causing all the drama, the kids come through with a discovery that could blow up a whole family. This episode was a wild one.

The Landlord Standoff

So, Tang Xiaowei’s nail salon is finally done with renovations. But her landlord is a nightmare. She shows up for the final inspection and takes forever. So long, in fact, that Tang Xiaowei completely forgets to pick her son up from school. The teacher has to bring him home.

This is where the landlord goes from annoying to awful. She starts questioning if Tang Xiaowei is even running a "proper" business. Then she has the nerve to say that Tang Xiaowei's status as a divorced woman might bring "bad influences" to the area. I couldn't believe it.

Luckily, her son Ma Ziheng was there. He heard everything and told the landlord she needed to apologize to his mom. The landlord, of course, saw nothing wrong with her comments.

This is where Tang Xiaowei finally snaps. She reveals that a security camera recorded the entire conversation. She gives the landlord a choice. Either sign a supplementary agreement stating she can't come into the shop unless there's a real issue like unpaid rent, or they can just cancel the lease and handle the breach of contract legally. Faced with actual consequences, the landlord's whole attitude changes. She agrees to sign the new agreement. It was a beautiful thing to watch.

A Sports Day Truce

The first community hearing about the neighborhood gate was a complete failure. No surprise there. The parents couldn't have a civil conversation, so they had to schedule a second one.

The Competition

Over at the school, it's sports day. Liu Guoning is dead set on beating his rival, Sun Jiayu. He starts strong and wins his first few events. But it's the total team score that counts for class pride. This means everything now rides on Sun Jiayu's high jump performance.

High jump is her weakest event, but she's been practicing. Her first few attempts are solid. On her very last jump, she twists her ankle but still clears the bar, winning the event.

A New Understanding

Here’s the part that got me. While Sun Jiayu was jumping, Liu Guoning was the one leading the cheers for her. He put the class's honor above their personal rivalry. He ended up winning the overall prize, technically beating her. But he admitted that her points made his win possible.

With that, their feud is finally over. Later, he sees her limping home on her injured ankle and carries her on his back.

The kids then show up at the second community hearing. They tell the adults about their victories and teamwork. You could see the shame on the parents' faces. Their own kids were being more mature than them. After that, the issue with the gate is finally settled. The property management agrees to step up, and the gate is opened.

The Nail Salon and a New Baby

Tang Xiaowei's nail salon has its grand opening. At the exact same time, Tingting goes into labor. Liu Xiangshang and Dai Jing rush off to help her and Lao Yang at the hospital.

With all the parents occupied, Sun Jiayu's dad steps up. He cooks dinner for all the kids. Ma Yingjie also has to leave for an emergency in Tianjin, so his kids are staying at Liu Xiangshang's house, too. It’s a full house.

A Shocking Discovery

All the kids are gathered together, finishing their homework. They get on the topic of where babies come from. Liu Guoning and Sun Jiayu don't know how to explain it to the little ones. So, they decide to show them their birth certificates instead.

Liu Guobao wants to see hers, too. She starts digging around the house for it. She can't find it, but she does find her parents' marriage certificate.

And here it is. The big secret.

The kids look at the date on the marriage certificate. It's two years after Liu Guoning was born. Sun Jiayu, always the analytical one, connects the dots. She suggests that Liu Guoning and Liu Guobao might only be half-siblings.

While this is happening, Chu Yi is worried sick about her mom, Tingting. She can't reach her parents, so she calls her brother. At the hospital, Tingting's labor is having complications. The doctor suggests a C-section, and a stressed-out Lao Yang just agrees. Back at the house, Chu Yi is too anxious to wait and sneaks out. Liu Guobao sees her leave and immediately calls her dad, sending Dai Jing rushing home.
