Lao Yang Is Drowning in Debt

A Father's Lies

Lao Yang gets home. He looks like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders. He needs to tell his wife, Tingting, about his company. But Tingting has her own news. She asks to go first.

Her shop has a cash flow problem. She needs to borrow some money from their family savings to cover it. She promises she can pay it back fast. Lao Yang just tells her to take what she needs. He doesn't say a word about his own situation. He just swallows the problem and keeps it to himself.

Then, his son Shiwu comes in with great news. He got accepted to a school abroad. This is a huge deal. The only catch is the cost. It's about 300,000 RMB a year for tuition and living expenses. Lao Yang puts on a brave face. He tells his son not to worry. He says he will get the money ready. Shiwu can tell something is off with his dad, though.

Here’s the reality. Lao Yang owes over 15 million RMB for a botched shipment and contract penalties. His company is so deep in debt that no bank will give it a loan. So, he decides to apply for personal loans instead. This is a bad, bad idea.

Teen Drama Heats Up

The Great Bake-Off

On a lighter note, we have the kids. Liu Guoning invites Shiwu to hang out. Shiwu decides to bring Mary along. He thinks she needs to meet more local friends. Maybe it will help her mood.

Mary is trying her best. She even bakes a cake and brings it for everyone. Liu Guoning won't stop talking about how great it is. He even says Mary is prettier and a better cook than his own girlfriend, Sun Jiayu. You can practically see the smoke coming out of Sun Jiayu's ears.

So, Sun Jiayu gets jealous. She decides she's going to become a baker. She finds a tutorial online and tries to make a cake. It's a complete disaster. The outside is burnt black. The inside is still raw dough. Liu Guoning begs her to just stop. But she's stubborn. She keeps trying to bake. Her next attempt looks a little better, but it's still uncooked in the middle.

A Mom Steps Up

The Taekwondo Show Must Go On

Liu Guobao's Taekwondo class has a big event coming up. It’s a performance and a ranking test. She has been practicing for a long time. But the teacher in charge has an emergency. The whole thing might get canceled. Liu Guobao is crushed.

The coach says the show can go on if a parent volunteers to help organize it. Dai Jing immediately raises her hand. She agrees to manage everything in her spare time. Seeing her step up, other parents volunteer to help, too.

Dai Jing gets completely swamped. She's so busy organizing the Taekwondo show that she has no time to help Liu Guobao with her homework. Liu Guobao has to go to her dad, Liu Xiangshang, for help instead. At first, she's a little annoyed with her mom. But her dad explains something important. He tells her that Dai Jing is only this busy because she doesn't want her daughter to be disappointed. Liu Guobao finally understands.

A Wife's Wrong Conclusion

The Affair That Isn't

Tingting finds a stack of business cards in Lao Yang's things. They are all from bank managers. She also sees information about loans. Her mind immediately jumps to the worst possible place. She thinks Lao Yang is having an affair and needs money for it.

She tries to snoop on his phone. But he changed the password. The next day, she confronts him with the cards. Lao Yang lies through his teeth. He tells her he's just trying to expand the business and needs loans for that. He tells her not to worry.

A Sketchy Investment Pitch

Later, Gao Yuxuan's mom calls a meeting. She gets Tingting, Tang Xiaowei, and a few other parents together. She has an investment opportunity. Apparently, her friend married the son of a chairman whose company is about to go public. They can buy pre-IPO shares.

Everyone is pretty skeptical. They have no real proof that their money would actually buy them these valuable shares. It sounds way too good to be true.
