Spoiler Alert
Golden Forest Episode 7: Spoilers and What Went Down
Alright, let's get into it. This episode was all about secrets, lies, and some seriously clumsy coffee pouring. Gao Shen is digging for dirt, and the Fong family is scrambling to bury it.
The Investigation Heats Up
A Bumpy Start for Gao Jing
Gao Shen is now pretty sure the Fong family is dirty. His assistant confirmed that a suspicious Mercedes is registered to Kwong Sin Tsuen's dad. So, he sends his own sister, Gao Jing, to do some recon. Her mission is to investigate the Children's Home that Kwong Sin Tsuen is so involved with.
Of course, things go wrong immediately. Gao Jing's car just dies on the way there. She's stranded. But then, Fong Hok Yin shows up like a knight in shining armor. He offers to help and even lends her his car so she can get to the orphanage. It's a nice gesture, but you have to wonder about the timing.
A Close Call at the Orphanage
Gao Jing finally makes it to the Children's Home. She sees Kwong Sin Tsuen playing with the kids, looking like a total saint. Gao Jing sneaks off to the director's office to start digging.
But then Fong Hok Yin shows up again. It's a little awkward. Gao Jing comes clean and tells him she's investigating Kwong Sin Tsuen's connection to the place. He seems to understand. Just as they're talking, the director walks in. Fong Hok Yin acts fast. He pulls the director aside for a chat, giving Gao Jing just enough time to snoop around.
Later, to thank him, Gao Jing takes him to dinner. He brings her to a humble little street stall for sweet dumplings. It's a simple move, but it works. They actually seem to connect, and you can see her opinion of him starting to change.
The Cover-Up
Erased Evidence
Gao Jing brings her findings back to her brother. The orphanage is a mess. The reported costs for its facilities are way over market price, and there are other red flags. Gao Shen immediately sends his people to the foundation to check their computers.
Too late. When his team arrives, they find all the computer histories have been wiped clean. The person in charge plays dumb. He claims the server failed and they thought it was a hacker, so they erased everything as a precaution. Gao Shen doesn't buy it for a second, but he's stuck.
We find out later what really happened. Kwong Sin Tsuen spotted Gao Jing snooping around the Children's Home. She knew what was coming. She tipped off her parents and had all the data destroyed before Gao Shen's team could get to it. She warns her parents they need to be more careful from now on. To top it off, the director of the Children's Home suddenly resigns. It all stinks.
Family Drama and Fake Headaches
The family isn't happy with Gao Shen's investigation. At a family dinner, Kwong Sin Tsuen makes a big show of offering to resign from the charity. She says she doesn't want anyone to think she's profiting from it. This gets the whole family riled up against Gao Shen. They all defend her and demand he be fired. Fong Yeung Tin, not wanting to deal with it, just pretends to have a headache and leaves the table.
A New Player Enters the Game
Lam Ching's Big Break
While all this is happening, the family has other business. They need to create a custom jewelry piece for the very important Miss Yung. Fong Yeung Tin puts his son, Fong Hok Lai, on the job.
Lam Ching is at the jewelry store to pick out her wedding accessories. But Fong Hok Lai basically kicks her out so he can meet with Miss Yung. He sends her to a conference room to wait.
Miss Yung is not impressed with the three designs Fong Hok Lai shows her. His brother, Fong Hok Kan, jumps in with his own design, which she likes a bit more. While waiting, Miss Yung bumps into Lam Ching in the restroom. She recognizes her as Fong Yeung Tin's fiancée and loves the bracelet Lam Ching is wearing.
Lam Ching explains the design concept to her. Miss Yung is fascinated. She brings Lam Ching back to the showroom and asks for her opinion on the rejected designs. Lam Ching's critique is sharp and insightful. Miss Yung is so impressed that she decides on the spot she wants to work with Lam Ching instead.
The Aftermath
A Wedding and a New Rivalry
Fong Yeung Tin and Lam Ching get married in a small, quiet ceremony. Not all the family shows up, which tells you everything you need to know.
After the wedding, Lam Ching throws herself into designing the jewelry for Miss Yung. She's so focused that she skips family dinners, which does not go over well. Kwong Sin Tsuen complains to the family matriarch about Lam Ching's behavior.
But Lam Ching's hard work pays off. Miss Yung loves the final design. She's so happy that she gives Lam Ching another huge project. Now, Fong Hok Lai and Fong Hok Kan are seething with jealousy. They're worried Lam Ching will steal their place on the board.
So, Kwong Sin Tsuen takes matters into her own hands. She "accidentally" spills coffee all over Lam Ching's new design sketches, completely ruining them. Lam Ching is annoyed, but she doesn't make a scene. She just quietly starts her work all over again.
