Spoiler Alert

A Judge's Tough Call and a Brutal Hit-and-Run

The show kicks off with a judge, Qin Yu, in the middle of a drug case. He's all business. He questions the defendant about the amount of drugs and the money he made. The guy on the stand is a wreck. He's shaking and insists he didn't do it.

While this is happening, we cut to a street somewhere else. A car slams right into a person on a motorcycle. The driver gets out, walks over, and just stares at the unconscious rider. There's no pity on his face. Not a single bit.

The Verdict

Back in the courtroom, the mood is tense. Qin Yu looks at the evidence he has. It's not strong enough. After a moment, he makes his decision. He declares the defendant not guilty. After the trial, Qin Yu looks completely drained. He straightens his robes and walks out of the courtroom. His steps are heavy. You can tell his decision is weighing on him.

The Fake Bomb

Later, Qin Yu gets back to his office. He sits down and immediately spots a bomb. His whole body tenses up. A woman named Tang Xuan calls the bomb squad right away. The experts arrive and check it out. It turns out the bomb is a fake. Qin Yu already has a suspect in mind. He thinks a man named Han Kuilong is behind it, but he can't prove it. We learn that nine years ago, Qin Yu was the judge who sentenced Han Kuilong. On his way to court for that case, someone tried to kill him. Tang Xuan was the one who saved his life back then.

The Truth Comes Out at Home

Police are at the scene of the hit-and-run. They're looking for clues. At the same time, a young boy runs home in a total panic. He rushes to the bathroom and frantically scrubs blood off his hands. He looks terrified.

When Qin Yu gets home, he goes straight to the garage. He checks the front of his car. He doesn't see any signs of a crash. Exhausted, he goes inside and collapses on the sofa. He seems to be spacing out, thinking about his wife.

Blood on the Shoes

A little while later, Qin Yu slowly goes upstairs to his son Yiwei's room. He sees Yiwei lying in bed. He quietly walks over and starts tidying his son's clothes. That's when he sees it. There's blood on Yiwei's shoes. The moment Yiwei sees his dad notice the blood, he panics.

A Father's Plan

Qin Yu just stares at him. The look in his eyes is intense. Yiwei finally breaks. He confesses that he took his dad's car that morning and hit someone. He got scared and drove straight home. He doesn't even know if the person he hit is alive or dead. Qin Yu listens to the whole story. After thinking for a moment, he makes a decision. He's going to take Yiwei to the police station to turn himself in. On the way there, he calmly tells his son exactly how to explain what happened. He keeps trying to comfort him.

The Cover-Up Begins

At the police station, Qin Yu goes upstairs to find Tang Xuan. He's about to tell her everything. But then he overhears something that changes his mind completely. The victim of the hit-and-run is Han Gang. Han Gang is Han Kuilong's son.

A Game-Changing Revelation

The plan to confess is gone. Just like that. Qin Yu secretly pulls out his phone. He calls his son and tells him to drive the car away and wait for him nearby. Yiwei isn't a great driver. He's so flustered that the police notice him. Meanwhile, Qin Yu lies to Tang Xuan. He tells her his car was stolen. A police officer is actually nice enough to help Yiwei move the car. Tang Xuan uses her sharp instincts. She figures the hit-and-run might be connected to a rival gang. This gives Qin Yu an idea.

Destroying the Evidence

Back at the car, Qin Yu sees a problem. The officer who helped his son wrote down the license plate number. The car didn't have a student driver sticker. This is very bad. When the officer isn't looking, Qin Yu steals the daily logbook.

In prison, Han Kuilong finds out his son is in a coma. He is devastated and furious. He grips the bars of his cell and demands the guards find who did this.

That night, Qin Yu drills the new story into Yiwei's head. He tells his son what to say. The story is that Yiwei took the bus to school like normal. He had an asthma attack on the way. He had to get off the bus and go home. When he got there, the car was gone. He just assumed his dad had taken it. After that, Qin Yu starts getting rid of all the evidence. He drives to a deserted street to meet a guy named A Wei. A Wei is a small-time crook who sells illegal cigarettes. He's jumpy but happy to see Qin Yu. Qin Yu tells him he's had nothing but trouble since putting Han Kuilong in jail. A Wei calls over one of his guys. He pays him a lot of money to take the car apart. The kid doesn't ask any questions. He just pries the door open and drives it away.

The Walls Start Closing In

Han Lie, Han Gang's brother, is at the hospital looking at his unconscious brother. He's worried. Han Gang ran the family business. Han Lie isn't confident he can handle things on his own.

A Clue at the Scene

The next day, a grieving Han Lie goes to the crash site. He touches the bloodstains on the ground. He then finds something in the grass. It's an asthma inhaler. He picks it up and holds it tightly in his hand.

The Phone Call

At the same time, the police arrest the kid who was paid to dismantle the car. Then, Tang Xuan calls Qin Yu. Her voice is urgent. She tells him they've found his "stolen" car.
