Faking an Injury for Love
So, Ming Yi is still trying hard to win over Ji Bozai. She comes up with a plan to look like a hero. She offers to retrieve a dangerous painting for him. She really sells it, acting like she's making a huge sacrifice.
Ji Bozai doesn't even hesitate. He just agrees. You can see the panic on Ming Yi's face for a second. She has to go through with it now. She steps forward to grab the painting and, surprise, she triggers a trap.
Ji Bozai jumps in to protect her. But Ming Yi sees her chance. She deliberately moves into the path of a Soul-Devouring Arrow. She does it to shield both him and the painting. The arrow goes right through her shoulder. It was a risky move, but it works. Ji Bozai finally shows a little bit of concern for her.
The Scallion Pancake Test
The next morning, Ming Yi's arrow wound is acting up. Ji Bozai comes to her room to take care of her himself. He carefully applies medicine to the wound.
He then notices she must be hungry. He takes her to the market. He buys her some hot scallion pancakes. Ming Yi is floored. She can't believe he remembered such a small detail about her.
It triggers a memory for her. Her mother used to make her scallion pancakes before every Qingyun Tournament. The memory makes her start crying. Ji Bozai thinks her wound is getting worse and immediately looks worried.
Ming Yi uses the moment perfectly. She leans into his arms and tells him how she feels. She gets him to promise he will never leave her again. She's thrilled her dangerous plan paid off.
The Investigation and Old Flames
Yan Xiao Hits a Dead End
Mu Qibai wants to know who stole the painting. He first asks Situ Ling to investigate the theft at Wugui Hai. Situ Ling flat-out refuses. He says he has no spiritual powers and isn't suited for dangerous fieldwork.
So, Mu Qibai gives the job to Yan Xiao instead. Yan Xiao goes to investigate, armed with some magical tools. Ming Yi is still in a lot of pain. But she manages to pull herself together and talk her way around his questions. She covers her tracks so well that Yan Xiao leaves without any real evidence.
A Broken Romance
We also get a little side drama with Princess Tianji. She wants to visit her father, the Jixing God, who is sick and in a coma. Yan Xiao physically blocks her from entering the room.
They start arguing. We learn they have a history. They were childhood sweethearts and had feelings for each other. But one day, Yan Xiao just left her. He decided to join Mu Qibai's side, and that was the end of their relationship.
Secrets and Vengeance
The Painting's Clue
Twenty-Seven has been doing some digging. He finds out the person in the mysterious painting is from the Bo family. This family of traveling doctors specializes in making two substances. They are called "Li Hen Tian" and "Huang Liang Meng."
Ming Yi hears this news. She starts connecting the dots between Ji Bozai and Bo Yulan. A new suspicion forms in her mind. Maybe the people locked away in that dark abyss were wrongly imprisoned.
A Vow for Blood
Yan Xiao reports back to Mu Qibai. He says the investigation was a total bust. Even his magical "Peeping Grass" didn't pick up anything suspicious. All he saw was Ji Bozai and Ming Yi acting like a couple all day.
Mu Qibai is annoyed. He suspects Ji Bozai knows he's being watched. He immediately orders someone named Xun Ming to be recalled.
At the same time, Ji Bozai is alone. He kneels in front of his master's portrait. He makes a silent vow. Within three days, he will get revenge. He will use the blood of his first enemy to honor his dead master.
A Dramatic Entrance
It's the day of the selection event for Jixing Yuan. Yan Xiao and the others are all seated. Princess Tianji is there to personally choose the fighters. Meng Yangqiu looks at Yan Xiao and Tianji. He seems nostalgic for the days when the three of them used to be close friends.
Time is running out, and Ji Bozai is nowhere to be seen. Tianji starts to get worried. He is the only one missing.
Then, at the very last second, Ji Bozai shows up. And he has Ming Yi with him. The whole place erupts. Everyone starts criticizing him. They say it's against the rules to bring a female companion to the selection. Tianji sees them together, and she is absolutely furious.
