Episode Summary
Wu Shi cleverly navigates a trap by Mao Renfeng and Duan Tuizhi, confirming his office is bugged and that Lin Yiliang has been moved. He then makes contact with a new ally, Chen Baocang, and they form a plan to rescue Lin by targeting his guard, Yu Xiaonan. Nie Xi and Zhu Feng track Yu Xiaonan through his girlfriend, a singer named A-Ling, and locate Lin's prison. To get more help, Zhu Feng contacts the Taiwan Working Committee, whose leader, Cai Xiaoqian, decides to launch his own rescue attempt against the advice of his team.

The Walls Have Ears
Wu Shi Plays Dumb
Wu Shi knows that Mao Renfeng and Duan Tuizhi are trying to test him. He goes to see Duan anyway. He casually brings up Mao’s angry visit. Duan can’t say anything real, so he just laughs it off. The timing is perfect. Duan’s wife calls him right then.
This gives Wu Shi the perfect opening. He mentions that Duan’s wife accidentally offended Mrs. Dou. Now she isn't invited to the Dou residence for mahjong anymore. Duan had no idea about any of this. Wu Shi then leans in with some friendly advice. He warns Duan that his wife might be cheating on him. He even offers to help investigate the situation.
Duan panics. He doesn't want a family scandal getting out. He secretly points to his office phone. Wu Shi gets the message immediately. The phone is bugged. He makes a little more small talk and then gets out of there.
Mao Renfeng's Frustration
Gu Zhengwen was listening to the entire conversation. He heard nothing suspicious. He has to report his failure to Mao Renfeng. Mao is furious. He went to all this trouble for absolutely nothing. He tells Gu to make Lin Yiliang talk. He needs results, or he’ll have to answer to Chiang Ching-kuo.
A New Alliance Forms
The Contact Is Made
Wu Shi now has confirmation. The Secrecy Bureau moved Lin Yiliang. He and Nie Xi start planning a rescue. Later, Wu Shi goes home and casually asks if Zhu Feng has stopped by recently.
At the same time, Chen Baocang receives a coded message from the organization. He and his trusted man, Old Du, rush back to Taipei. They are told to wait for their new contact.
Wu Shi shows up at Chen Baocang’s place in the middle of a storm. He even brings Chen’s favorite dishes from his hometown. Chen gives him the cold shoulder. Then Wu Shi says the secret code phrase. Chen is completely stunned. He can’t believe the person sent by the organization is Wu Shi.
The First Mission
Wu Shi welcomes Chen to the East China Sea intelligence group. He tells him their number one priority is rescuing Lin Yiliang. He explains how Gu Zhengwen staged a whole drama just to move him. Wu Shi thinks they should use Yu Xiaonan as a weak point to get information. Chen agrees. He decides to send Old Du to find out where Lin is being held.
The Honey Trap
Following the Target
Nie Xi has been tailing Yu Xiaonan for days. He discovers Yu is spending a lot of time with a singer named A-Ling. She works at the Huadu Dance Hall. Yu also frequently buys her pastries from a place called Rong Kee Bakery.
Nie Xi can’t follow A-Ling everywhere, like into the women's bathhouse. He asks Wu Shi for help from Zhu Feng. Wu Shi is smart about it. He tells Nie Xi to get a doctor's note for sick leave so no one gets suspicious about his absence. Zhu Feng goes to the dance hall. She confirms that Yu shows up on time to watch A-Ling’s performances. She gets A-Ling's schedule and finds the bakery. She starts staking out the area.
A Past Wound Reopens
Gu Zhengwen isn't giving up. He has Li Qing watching Nie Xi’s every move. Nie Xi fakes a fever and goes to the hospital to see Gao Xiumei. She knows he’s faking but he claims he’s just exhausted and needs rest. She writes him the sick note.
Right after Nie Xi leaves, Li Qing pays Gao a visit. She deliberately tells Gao that Nie Xi took a bullet while trying to save her. This is the first Gao has ever heard of it.
The Rescue Plan Heats Up
A Close Call
Using Zhu Feng’s intel, Nie Xi and Old Du find where Lin Yiliang is being held. Nie Xi hides out in a nearby abandoned building to watch the place. But Gu Zhengwen is still paranoid. He sends Yu Xiaonan to sweep the area one more time. Nie Xi has to scramble to hide and barely avoids being discovered.
Calling in Reinforcements
Nie Xi and Zhu Feng discuss the next move. They want to attempt the rescue on a night A-Ling is performing. Zhu Feng is worried, though. A failed mission could expose Wu Shi and Chen Baocang. She suggests they ask the Taiwan Working Committee for backup. She writes a request letter and leaves it in a dead drop. Cai Xiaoqian gets the message and sends someone to meet her.
Too Many Cooks
Zhu Feng meets with Cai Xiaoqian and asks for his help. Cai agrees to rescue Lin Yiliang. But he says he has no way to get him out of the city afterward. Zhu Feng decides she needs to go back to Wu Shi to figure out a better plan.
Nie Xi confirms that A-Ling has a show tonight. He reports his action plan to Wu Shi. Wu Shi has a Ministry of Defense meeting he has to attend. He tells Nie Xi to make a quick appearance there as well. It will solidify their alibis. But Cai Xiaoqian has his own ideas. He makes his own detailed plan and ignores his comrades who tell him it's too risky. He insists on leading the rescue mission himself. This feels like it's about to go wrong.
