Blood River Episode 37: Recap and Spoilers

The Prince's Choice

The episode kicks off with the Prince of Langya. He's not doing well. He's sitting in his sedan chair, coughing. You can see ice literally forming on his arm. He tries to use his internal energy to melt it, but it's no use.

Li Hanyi comes to see him. She immediately notices how bad his cold poison has gotten. After a quick check, she figures it out. He ate something he absolutely should not have. She can't understand why he would do that to himself.

The Prince explains his reasoning. He remembers his childhood. His older brother, the Grand Prince, always protected him. He never cared that the Prince of Langya was the unfavored son. So, he's been repaying that kindness for years by helping his brother. Li Hanyi puts the pieces together. The Grand Prince must have tampered with the pastries. What's worse is that the Emperor knew about it. He just let it happen. The Prince of Langya doesn't seem to care about the truth. His loyalty is set.

The Ambush Unravels

Su Muyu Stands His Ground

Outside the Prince's sedan, Li Hanyi confronts three masked men. She knows they're eunuchs working for Zhuo Qing. She calls them out for getting involved in Tianqi City's chaos. They tell her to mind her own business. She basically tells them she does what she wants.

At the same time, Su Muyu is in a fight. He sees elders from the three great families blocking his way. He can't figure out why they would choose to be servants. Why not side with Dark River? Then, the man himself, Zhuo Qing, shows up. He finds it funny that Su Muyu is acting like a righteous hero. He mocks him for helping the Prince of Langya.

Su Muyu doesn't waste time with words. He just activates his sword formation. Zhuo Qing is arrogant. He still thinks he's the top fighter here. He injures the already wounded Su Muyu. He asks him if all this sacrifice is even meaningful. Su Muyu doesn't care if Zhuo Qing gets it or not.

Su Changhe's True Colors

Su Zhe and Bai Hehuai are on their way to rescue Su Muyu. But they get stopped and can't reach him.

Back at the fight, Su Muyu is about to collapse. Suddenly, Su Changhe appears from the shadows. He lands a heavy blow on Zhuo Qing. This is the big reveal. Zhuo Qing finally understands Su Changhe's plan. He was playing both sides. He planned a double-cross all along.

Su Changhe's palm strike was poisoned. He tells Zhuo Qing he has waited over twenty years for this moment. He never forgot the massacre of his family. He knew who his enemy was, so he hid his intentions and waited.

A Desperate Gamble

Zhuo Qing tries to absorb energy from the family elders to recover. Su Changhe steps in and tries to absorb Zhuo Qing's power instead. This turns out to be a trap. Zhuo Qing wanted this to happen. His internal energy is so immense that absorbing it will cause Su Changhe to overload and basically explode.

Su Changhe can't handle the power. He's clearly failing.

Seeing this, Su Muyu makes a choice. He decides to fully embrace his demonic power. He knows it might kill him, but he has to kill Zhuo Qing. Bai Hehuai throws him her sword. Su Muyu unleashes a massive final attack. He successfully injures Zhuo Qing, but the power consumes him. He fully transforms into his demonic form.

The Cost of Victory

A Final Farewell

Su Muyu is now a dangerous, uncontrolled demon. Bai Hehuai, ignoring the danger, runs toward him. She tries to call out to him and wake him up. In a surprising moment, it works. His own inner goodness pulls him back from the brink.

Just as you think they're safe, Bai Hehuai collapses. She realizes she fell for one of Night Raven's traps. She was poisoned. She tried to make an antidote, but it failed. She says that not even the gods can save her now. Her father, Su Zhe, tries to force the poison out with his energy, but she tells him it's useless.

Su Muyu picks her up. He tries to run to find a doctor, but he collapses from his own injuries.

Everyone is Hurting

The episode also gives us a quick look at Night Raven. She's seriously injured, too. She admits she completely underestimated Tang Lianyue's strength. It seems nobody walked away from this fight without a scratch.
