Spoiler Alert
The Assassin's Identity is No Secret
So, the episode kicks off right where we left off. An assassin is trying to take out Bai Hehuai in the Lair.
A figure swoops in at the last second. It's Su Muyu. He saves Bai Hehuai. He also manages to knock the attacker's hat clean off. And guess who it is. It's Su Changhe.
I was not expecting that reveal so soon. Su Muyu is completely baffled. Only members of the Spider's Shadow are supposed to get into this place. This pretty much confirms there's a traitor in their midst.
Su Changhe doesn't offer any explanations. He sees Su Muyu, knows the mission is a bust, and just leaves.
A Mole in the Ranks
The Immediate Fallout
Bai Hehuai wants to sound the alarm and call for backup. But Su Muyu stops him. He doesn't want to kill Su Changhe.
You can tell Bai Hehuai is not happy about this. Su Changhe was clearly trying to kill him. He says that if Su Muyu hadn't arrived, he'd be dead. He also points out the obvious. They have a mole.
During the fight, Bai Hehuai used Su family techniques. He expected Su Muyu to question him about it. Su Muyu doesn't seem to care at all. He also promises Bai Hehuai that he'll explain his own mysterious past. He just needs them both to survive this mission first.
The Traitor Confesses
Su Muyu is smart. He quickly figures out who the mole is. It has to be Chou Niu. Chou Niu was guarding the exact path the assassin used. But he was conveniently absent.
Su Muyu confronts him. Chou Niu doesn't even try to lie. He admits everything.
His reasoning is wild. He knows The Patriarch is dying from an incurable poison. He thinks The Patriarch only has a few years left, even with help. So, he wants Su Muyu to take over as the new leader. He even tries to convince Su Muyu to take the Sleeping Dragon Sword right now and seize control.
Su Muyu is fiercely loyal. He refuses to betray The Patriarch. He tells Chou Niu to get out.
Alliances and Betrayals Heat Up
A Warning for Su Muyu
Just after Chou Niu leaves, Mu Kewen shows up. He heard everything. He tells Su Muyu that letting a traitor go is a serious violation of their code.
Mu Kewen sees right through him. He knows Su Muyu is trying to be a good person. He gives him a stark warning. For an assassin, having a good heart is a fatal flaw.
Chou Niu's Final Moments
Things go bad for Chou Niu very quickly. He gets kicked out by Su Muyu and immediately runs into the Xie family. They try to get him to betray Su Muyu. He refuses.
So, Bu Xie, a master fighter secretly working for the Xie family, kills him.
Xie Qianji takes a scroll from Chou Niu's body. As the Xie family tries to slip away, they're cornered. Mu Xuewei and Mu Bai from the Mu family appear. They had already set a trap for them.
Tangled Feelings and New Threats
A Misunderstanding at the Inn
We also check in on the injured Mu Yumo, whose code name is Mao Tu. Tang Lianyue has her recovering at an inn.
When Mu Yumo wakes up, she sees Tang Lianyue and gets the complete wrong idea. She assumes Tang Lianyue must have a crush on her. So she starts acting very flirty and teasing her.
Tang Lianyue is an incredible fighter. But she has zero experience with romance. She gets totally flustered and flees the room.
A Dangerous Encounter
This was bad timing. The second Tang Lianyue steps outside, she runs straight into Su Changhe. He immediately starts to test her. He threatens to go inside and kill Mu Yumo himself.
Revenge is on the Table
The episode ends back at the Spider's Shadow Lair. Chou Niu's body has been sent back. Everyone is furious.
Su Muyu examines the body. He can tell from the wounds that the three great families worked together to kill him. Even though Chou Niu betrayed them, he was still one of their own.
Su Muyu has made a decision. He's going to get revenge for Chou Niu.
