Episode Summary
The families turn on each other as a larger conspiracy by the Soul-Lifting Hall is revealed. Su Zhe makes a shocking return, revealing his immense power and his connection to Bai Hehuai, who is his daughter. The Mu family implodes with a stunning betrayal, while Bai Hehuai offers a cure for the Patriarch that will cost her own life. The episode ends with the Spider's Shadows declaring their loyalty and pushing Su Muyu to take power.

The Mu and Su Families Face Off
The episode kicks off with Xie Fanhua getting ambushed by her own family. You hate to see it. The whole thing is witnessed by Mu Zizhe. He's the new, young head of the Mu family.
Su Changhe sees this as an opportunity. He tries to tempt Mu Zizhe with the Patriarch's position. Mu Zizhe is not an idiot, though. He sees right through the offer and tries to kill Su Changhe instead.
While that's happening, Su Muyu gets Bai Hehuai out of there through a secret passage. Bai Hehuai trusts him completely. He even tells Su Muyu that his father is Su Zhe. Su Muyu is also hiding a serious injury from his last fight. He’s been pushing through on pure willpower to protect the Patriarch. The strain is finally starting to show. Bai Hehuai notices and checks on his wounds. Su Muyu uses his internal energy to suppress the poison for now.
A Family Reunion Gets Complicated
Su Muyu finally gets out of the secret passage. He walks right into another problem. Mu Bai and his men are waiting for him. A fight breaks out immediately.
The battle between Mu Zizhe and Su Changhe is also getting intense. Su Changhe manages to cut Mu Zizhe with a poisoned blade. Mu Zizhe isn't too worried at first. But then two more Su family members show up as backup for Su Changhe. Mu Zizhe knows he can't win a long fight. He has to retreat before the poison spreads to his organs. This lets Su Changhe off the hook.
Su Muyu manages to break Mu Bai's sword formation. Mu Bai is stunned. Su Muyu then reveals he’s from Swordless City, which shocks Mu Bai even more. Su Muyu is about to win. But, of course, Mu Bai gets his own reinforcements.
Just in time, Su Zhe appears to help Su Muyu. He says they should team up against the Mu family. But the moment Su Muyu is busy fighting, Su Zhe turns and goes straight for Bai Hehuai. His plan is to kill him. Then he sees Bai Hehuai's fighting style. He stops. He realizes Bai Hehuai isn't a "he" at all. She's his daughter.

The Puppet Masters Pull the Strings
We get a peek at what's going on behind the scenes. The Soul-Lifting Hall knows the three great families are making moves. The three Tianguan are thrilled. This is all part of their master plan. They feel the families are getting too powerful and disobedient. So, they orchestrated this conflict. They want the families to weaken each other through infighting. Then they can install a new, more obedient leader.
A Knife in the Back
Mu Bai sees the connection between Su Zhe and Bai Hehuai. He calls out Su Zhe for marrying a woman from an outside clan. Su Zhe doesn't care at all. He then shatters the Mu family's sword formation with a single move. Su Muyu is floored. No one knew Su Zhe was this powerful.
Mu Bai and another family member, Mu Qingyang, manage to escape. Mu Bai wants to run home and tell the clan leader about Su Zhe's secret marriage. He thinks this is the perfect excuse to wipe out the Su family. Mu Qingyang agrees with the plan. Then he turns around and kills Mu Bai on the spot. A brutal, classic betrayal.
A Cure with a Deadly Cost
The Patriarch's Last Hope
Su Muyu, Bai Hehuai, and Su Zhe make their way to the Patriarch. Bai Hehuai reveals she has a way to cure him. There's just one huge catch. Using the cure will kill her.
Su Zhe immediately refuses to let her do it. Mu Kewen then asks a very pointed question. He wants to know if someone else could take her place.
Later that night, Su Zhe and Bai Hehuai have a heart-to-heart. He tells her he once tried to change the rules so he could marry her mother. He almost succeeded. But even the Patriarch stopped supporting him after learning who her mother was. Bai Hehuai says she wants to take him south after this is all over. Su Zhe sees right through it. He knows the real reason she's so determined to save the Patriarch is because of Su Muyu.
The Spiders Choose Their Leader
Su Muyu is feeling the pressure. He remembers one of his followers, Spider's Shadow, complaining. Their group, Dark River, used to be a force to be reckoned with. Now they are just being hunted. Just then, another member, Si She, arrives with medicine. Su Muyu feels guilty. He thinks he's the reason they're all in this mess.
Si She tells him not to worry. None of them regret following him. They all see a glimmer of hope in him. The rest of the Spider's Shadows appear. They are all in agreement. They want Su Muyu to become the next Patriarch.
