A Very Awkward Night
Close Quarters
So, Chu Yu and Wei Yun are stuck sharing a room. It's one bed, one blanket. You know the drill. Chu Yu is a woman of logic. She gets up to ask Shen Niangzi for another blanket. The cold air outside seems to knock some sense into her. She just goes back inside.
She decides to talk to Wei Yun instead. She tells him about how she met Gu Chusheng. Then she tries to smooth things over with Wei Yun. She makes up a story about seeing him once, looking all heroic and impressive. Wei Yun sees right through the lie. It gets a little embarrassing for her. He then asks her if she can truly see himfrom now on. He looks at her with so much hope. Chu Yu says no. Her reason? She's too tired to keep her eyes open. Ouch.
The Village Has a Secret
Unwanted Visitors
Just as they finally fall asleep, Shen Niangzi and Cui Lang burst in. They are in a total panic. It turns out Bei Qi soldiers are in the village. They're searching for someone. Shen Niangzi and Cui Lang quickly hide Chu Yu and Wei Yun.
The man in charge is a Bei Qi spy leader named Shen You. He immediately recognizes Cui Lang. His real name is Cui Yi. He was once a Bei Qi spy who deserted his post. Shen You doesn't arrest him, though. He has other plans. He threatens them. He shows them a wanted poster with Chu Yu and Wei Yun's faces. If they see the two, they must light a signal fire for him.
The Truth Comes Out
The villagers learn that Cui Yi is from Bei Qi. At first, they are scared. Then they get angry. They worry he will bring trouble down on all of them. Cui Yi gets on his knees. He begs them not to blame Shen Niangzi. He promises that he and Wei Yun will leave the next day.
But some villagers speak up for him. They remember all the times Cui Yi helped them. They decide he can stay. Seeing this, Wei Yun steps forward. He reveals his own identity. He shows them the token of the Marquis of Zhenguo. An old man in the crowd, Zheng Zhi, recognizes it. He used to be a centurion in the Wei family army. He confirms Wei Yun is the seventh son of the Wei family. Chu Yu and Wei Yun then promise they can protect the village.
A Wedding and a Trap
Setting the Stage
Chu Yu writes a letter. She gives it to Cui Yi to deliver to Chu Linyang. At the same time, Cui Yi sends fake information to Shen You. He's luring Shen You and his men into a trap.
Chu Linyang and his people arrive. They move all the real villagers to safety. Then, his own soldiers disguise themselves as locals. As part of the trap, they stage a big wedding for Wei Yun and Chu Yu. Wei Yun knows this wedding is just for show. But deep down, he's taking it completely seriously. He uses the fake ceremony to promise himself to Chu Yu again. He really hopes for a real answer this time. Before Chu Yu can say anything, Shen You and his men crash the party.
The Trap Is Sprung
Swords are drawn on both sides. Shen You realizes the wedding was a setup just for him. Cui Yi and Shen Niangzi lead the villagers back to help fight. They completely overwhelm Shen You's forces.
Shen You manages to escape. Wei Yun cleverly tells Wei Qiu to follow him. He wants to see if they can figure out who is really pulling the strings.
Another Rejection
Wei Yun pulls Chu Yu aside again. He needs an answer. He seriously asks her if she will be with him. Chu Yu hesitates. She can't get past the fact that she's his brother Wei Jun's widow. She can't make a decision.
Wei Yun refuses to give up. He presses her for an answer. In the end, Chu Yu rejects him again. She says the price they would have to pay to be together is too high. She's not willing to take that risk.
Back to Reality
They return to the city. The Duke of Hu is there to greet them. He looks at them and feels proud. He thinks the future of the Da Sui empire is in good hands. The whole experience in the small village starts to feel like a distant dream. Chu Yu stops talking about her feelings with Wei Yun. They have more important things to deal with.
Gu Chusheng is still investigating the Yao Yong case. He goes to question Duke Ning, Wang Jingzhi, about the attempt on his life. Wang Jingzhi tries to put him in his place. He reminds Gu Chusheng that he's just the head of the Dali Temple. But Gu Chusheng has a comeback. He proudly says he's about to be promoted to Minister of Personnel because of his good work. Wang Jingzhi is stunned. He has no idea how Gu Chusheng climbed the ladder so fast. Gu Chusheng stands tall. He says he earned his promotion through his own ability. Then he walks out, leaving Wang Jingzhi furious.
