The Messy Song and Chu Family Drama
A Closed Door for Song Qingping
The episode kicks off with Wei Yun and Chu Linyang mid-chess game. They hear Song Qingping outside, so Wei Yun makes a quick exit.
Song Qingping is at the back gate of the Chu house. She's calling out for Chu Linyang. He gives her nothing. The door stays firmly shut in her face. Her brother, Song Wenchang, shows up to comfort her and tells the gawking crowd to get lost. Of course, Chu Jin happens to overhear this whole exchange. Song Wenchang immediately runs after her.
Their other sibling, Song Shilan, just watches this all unfold. He's clearly tired of his brother and sister being completely wrapped up in the Chu family.
A Break for Chu Jin and Song Wenchang
Song Wenchang catches up to Chu Jin. He tries to apologize for going off to war without her permission. But then he says he did it to win glory for her. He also admits he would do it again.
That's not what Chu Jin wanted to hear. She tells him they need to take some time apart to cool off. I can't say I blame her.
The Grand Princess Plays Matchmaker
A Suspicious Maid
The Grand Princess, Li Changming, is worried about Chu Yu. She has a headache after a long day of official duties. Her attendant, Xue Hanmei, knows just what will help. She sends for Chu Yu. The moment Chu Yu arrives, Li Changming says her headache is gone.
Li Changming sends Xue Hanmei away. Only one maid, Xiang'er, stays to pour tea. Chu Yu pulls out a letter from a bamboo tube for the princess to see. Xiang'er gets a look at it and becomes so flustered she almost drops the teacups. Li Changming notices this but doesn't call her out on it. The suspicion is definitely there, though.
Chu Yu is stuck on the letter's plum blossom pattern. She has no idea what it means. Li Changming changes the subject. She tells Chu Yu that if she finds someone she likes, she should be brave about it. This advice makes Chu Yu think about Wei Yun.
Later, Li Changming decides it's time to figure out who in her household is truly loyal. Xiang'er's weird reaction is the first thing she plans to investigate.
Big Moves and Brave Choices
Chu Yu and Wei Yun Finally Connect
It's the She Day Festival, and the streets are packed. Chu Yu is walking home by herself when she runs into Wei Yun. He brought Ling'er with him, hoping to find her. Wei Qiu smartly takes Ling'er off to the side. This gives Wei Yun and Chu Yu a moment alone.
Wei Yun admits something important. He was terrified she wasn't going to come back. Chu Yu remembers the Grand Princess's words about being brave. She decides to finally accept Wei Yun's love. She hugs him and tells him, "I'm back." He is absolutely thrilled.
The End of a Marriage
Things are not going so well elsewhere. Wang Jingzhi summons his son-in-law, Gu Chusheng. He is furious that Gu helped clear the names of the Wei and Chu families.
But Gu Chusheng has found his backbone. He's no longer afraid of his father-in-law. He tells Wang Jingzhi that he's done being forced to be a bad person. He wants to be a good official who serves the people, not a coward like him. This sends Wang Jingzhi into a rage. He draws his sword and points it at Gu.
His daughter, Wang Linlang, runs in. She stands in front of Gu Chusheng. She tells her father he'll have to kill her first. Then she announces she is divorcing Gu Chusheng. Wang Jingzhi tries to strike her with the hilt of his sword. Gu Chusheng jumps in the way and takes the hit for her. Wang Linlang already has the divorce papers prepared. She signs them, and just like that, their marriage is over.
A Stolen Moment at the Temple
The very next morning, Wei Yun is knocking on Chu Yu's window. He wants to take her somewhere special.
They arrive at a temple before it even opens. A huge crowd is already there, all fighting to be the first inside to hang a prayer plaque. Wei Yun has a better idea. He helps Chu Yu climb over a wall. They almost get caught by a young disciple who is sweeping the grounds.
They hide among some fluttering red banners. The disciple is only a few steps away. They're both tense, worried they'll be found and kicked out. Luckily, another disciple calls the first one away. He says something poetic about how it's not the banner that moves, but the heart. When the heart moves, so does emotion. This really resonates with Wei Yun and Chu Yu. As the banners flutter around them, their own hearts are definitely fluttering for each other.
