Spoiler Alert
A Hard-Won Victory
After everything they've been through, Chu Yu has made her choice. She is going to be with Wei Yun, no matter what.
The trip to the hot springs villa really opened Lu Qiba's eyes. He got Wei Yun's gun back for him, and Wei Yun was so grateful he gave him a hug. But Lu Qiba saw something else there. He went down to the workshop and saw the Eight-sided Crossbow. It was an incredible weapon. Then he learned how the Bei Qi tested it. They sacrificed countless lives just for a weapon. He realized he could never do that. He would rather fail to build the crossbow than kill his own people for it.
The Battle for Fengling City
Back on the battlefield, Chu Linyang was covered in blood. He had been fighting for years. He was ready to die for his country. He faced a huge number of Bei Qi soldiers. But he refused to retreat a single step.
Just as things looked hopeless, the emperor's reinforcements finally arrived. The Bei Qi army scattered and fled. Song Qingping ran out from the city gates. She rushed to Chu Linyang, crying. She told him the Bei Qi were gone.
At the same time, Chu Yu and Wei Yun's group got back. Wei Yun had big news. King Sucan of Bei Qi was dead. They had won. Qingzhou and Fengling both defeated the Bei Qi army.
A Painful Rejection
Chu Linyang had been prepared to die in that battle. He doesn't want to be a burden to Song Qingping. So he pushed her away again. Song Qingping had followed him all the way to Fengling City. She was so sure he loved her. She just didn't understand his reasons.
Having her feelings rejected again and again finally broke her. She told Chu Linyang she wouldn't bother him anymore.
After all the chaos, Chu Yu found a moment to comfort Wei Yun. Her soft words meant everything to him. He pulled her in for a kiss. For now, the war is over. The Da Sui dynasty is finally turning things around.
The Emperor's Court
A Hero's Welcome and a Snake in the Grass
They all returned to the capital, Huajing. Xie Yun cried when she saw Chu Yu, Wei Yun, and Gu Chusheng were safe.
Wei Yun, Gu Chusheng, and the Song brothers went to court to report. Wei Yun got the top honor for killing King Sucan. The emperor was also impressed with Song Wenchang and Song Shilan.
But Wang Jingzhi tried to cause trouble for Gu Chusheng. He brought up Qingzhou's fall. He said Gu Chusheng surrendered to the Bei Qi. He argued Gu Chusheng should be punished, not rewarded.
The emperor asked Wei Yun for his opinion. Wei Yun defended Gu Chusheng completely. He said the surrender was a trick. It was a strategy to buy them more time. The emperor loved this. He promoted Gu Chusheng to Minister of Personnel.
A Dangerous Request
Wei Yun then took a big risk. He asked the emperor for a reward for Chu Yu. The emperor clearly did not want to talk about it. He changed the subject fast.
Later, Eunuch Huang told Wei Yun the emperor wanted to have lunch with him. Gu Chusheng pulled Wei Yun aside. He warned him that the emperor probably hated hearing him call Chu Yu "Mrs. Wei." It showed too much personal attachment.
Gu Chusheng was right. During lunch, the emperor brought it up. He said he is getting old. He has to think about the future for Li Huan. He told Wei Yun he needs to be a "God of War." A God of War cannot be distracted by love and romance.
Fame and Family
Wei Yun is now a superstar in Huajing City. He killed King Sucan with a single spear thrust. Women are lining up to buy his portrait. They are not interested in the portraits of the Song brothers, who are now the Left and Right Generals.
Song Shilan and Gu Chusheng overheard people talking about this on the street. Gu Chusheng tried to comfort him. But Song Shilan wasn't upset at all. He just genuinely admires Wei Yun.
Back at his home, Wei Yun wanted to go see Chu Yu. Jiang Chun didn't try to stop him this time. She just told him to do what he thinks is right. The episode ends as Chu Yu pushes Chu Linyang in a wheelchair. She's finally having a real talk with her brother.
