Episode Summary
Bai Chifan and Ling Cangcang destroy a human trafficking ring on a boat, but the boat explodes. Bai survives and proposes to Cangcang. She accepts, but tragedy strikes when she introduces him to her beloved Master. Bai realizes the Master is the evil Ghost King and kills him. Cangcang witnesses the kill without knowing the truth. Now revealed as Emperor Xiao Huan, he tries to manage a hateful wife and a palace full of rumors about their unconsummated marriage.

The Most Expensive Date Ever
We start right back on the boat. Ling Cangcang is not happy. She feels they spent way too much money to be here. She wants to get some actual information to make it worth the cost. She tries to stick around after hours. The owner catches them. But things get weird fast.
Bai Chifan decides to flex his wallet at the auction. He drops a massive amount of money on some medicine. The entire room is in shock. Cangcang thinks he is insane. She feels physical pain watching him spend that much cash on a whim.
Then the family drama kicks in. Xiao Qianqing shows up. Bai Chifan immediately gets defensive. He thinks his brother is working with Huang Wei to take him down. He even accuses Qianqing of the recent assassination attempt. Qianqing gets angry at the accusation. The brothers actually start fighting. Cangcang has to step in to stop them from killing each other.
Explosions and a Wet Landing
Cangcang and Bai Chifan head to the backyard of the boat. They find something nasty. This place is a hub for human trafficking. Bai Chifan keeps the guards busy. Cangcang sneaks around and frees the captured children. She comes back to fight alongside him.
The bad guys realize they are losing. They decide to cut their losses. They chant a spell and detonate explosives on the boat. The whole place goes up. Bai Chifan shields Cangcang from the blast. They fall into the lake together. He takes the brunt of the damage.
A Proposal and a Murder
Bai Chifan falls into a coma. He has nightmares about Ling Xuefeng mocking him. He wakes up with a singular focus. He demands Cangcang marry him. Luo Xianxue tries to interrupt this sudden proposal. Bai Chifan shuts him down. He declares his love for Cangcang right in front of everyone. Cangcang believes him. She even defends him against Luo Xianxue.
Xiao Qianqing is still trying to clear his name. He brings a gift to his brother. He swears he will prove his loyalty.
Cangcang opens up about her past. She tells Bai Chifan about her childhood. Her father was always away. She got kidnapped once while trying to follow him. Her Master saved her. She trusts this Master completely. She takes Bai Chifan to meet him.
This is a bad move. Bai Chifan realizes immediately that her Master is not a good guy. The tension is high. The Master gives Cangcang a sword named "Willow Wind." He gives Bai Chifan a sword too. But Bai sees the threat behind the gift.
Later that night, Bai Chifan confronts the Master. He knows the old man is actually the Ghost King. The Master admits it. He says he has things he must do. He gives a creepy smile and goads Bai Chifan into attacking him. Bai strikes. Cangcang walks in at that exact second. She sees Bai Chifan standing over her dead Master. She doesn't know the context. She just sees a murderer. Her trust turns into pure hatred.
The Coldest Homecoming
We shift to the palace. Xiao Huan (Bai Chifan's real identity) watches Cangcang wake up. She looks at him with disgust. He killed her father figure. She thinks his love was just a manipulation. Xiao Huan tries to be pragmatic. He tells her to look forward and think about the living. This is terrible advice for a grieving woman.
Cangcang wants to go home for the traditional return ceremony alone. Xiao Huan waits for her outside anyway. The palace is buzzing with rumors. Everyone knows the Emperor and Empress didn't sleep together on their wedding night. People suspect the marriage is fake. Xiao Huan escorts her back to the Ling Manor. They share a look before entering. It is not a loving look.
