The Truth Comes Out, and It's Messy
A Secret DNA Test
Xu Dacheng went behind everyone's back. He took the DNA test results straight to his wife, Yu Jingxiang. The test confirms it. Shen Mingzhu is their biological daughter.
Yu Jingxiang wants to reunite with Mingzhu immediately. She can't hold back. She starts showing up wherever Mingzhu is. She just wants to be near her, to see how she's doing.
The Big Confrontation
Yue Xiue, Mingzhu's adoptive mom, catches on. She finds Yu Jingxiang and a massive fight breaks out. Yu Jingxiang tries to explain her side of the story. She says her own mother sent Mingzhu away years ago. She left a note with their family's address. The plan was always to bring Mingzhu back home when they were better off.
Yue Xiue isn't buying it. She says she never saw a note. She accuses them of abandoning their baby. Then, the real story comes out. Yue Xiue admits she had a miscarriage thirty years ago. That's when she adopted Mingzhu. She did find the note with the address. But she was terrified the Xu family would come and take the baby away. So she tore it up on the spot.
Yu Jingxiang is devastated. She begs Mingzhu for forgiveness. Yue Xiue physically blocks her from getting close. Xu Dacheng rushes in to calm his wife down. Through all of this, Mingzhu just stands there, completely stunned. She has no idea what to do. Xu Zhidong helps his father get their mother to leave.
Picking Up the Pieces
Mingzhu's Loyalty Test
Later, Mingzhu asks Yue Xiue about the note. Yue Xiue denies it again. Mingzhu decides not to push it.
At home, Yue Xiue complains to her husband and son, Shen Minghui. She talks about how hard she worked to raise Mingzhu. Now Yu Jingxiang just wants to swoop in and take her.
Mingzhu reassures her. She tells Yue Xiue that she will always be her real mother. She promises she won't acknowledge Xu Dacheng and Yu Jingxiang. Mingzhu thinks the Xu family is just trying to ease their own guilt. They're being overly nice. Yu Jingxiang fusses over her. Xu Zhixia helped her get a promotion. Xu Zhidong is even having his wedding at her hotel. She's grateful, but that's it.
A Cold War at the Xu House
Back at the Xu residence, things are tense. Xu Dacheng is angry at his wife for being so impulsive. They start a full-on cold war. Yu Jingxiang stops cooking for him. He gets so hungry he starts dreaming about food. She eventually feels bad and makes a huge meal. But he's stubborn and refuses to eat a single bite.
Xu Zhixia sees the chaos and just walks away. She wants no part of it.
Wedding Plans and Old Connections
The Bride Price Problem
The family drama is affecting Xu Zhidong's wedding plans. He and his fiancée, Bichen, look at wedding dresses. The ones she likes cost a fortune. Bichen says they're too expensive, and they leave the shop.
The bigger issue is the bride price. Bichen's parents are asking about it. Zhidong has no answers because his own parents aren't even speaking to each other. He calls his sister, Xu Zhixia, and begs her to come home and fix things.
A Small World
Zhixia says she doesn't want to get involved. But then she does. She invites Mingzhu over to the house. It works like a charm. Xu Dacheng and Yu Jingxiang are thrilled to see her. Mingzhu even brings them health supplements. She also offers a 20% discount for Zhidong's wedding banquet at her hotel.
Her birth parents are ecstatic. They fuss over her, getting her drinks and snacks. Zhixia watches this and makes a sarcastic comment. She says Mingzhu is the only "medicine" that works on their parents.
Later, Zhidong and Bichen go to the Nanxi Hotel to look at wedding options. Mingzhu is there to help them. Bichen realizes something. She recognizes Mingzhu as the sister-in-law of her high school friend, Feng Meiqi. Bichen video calls Meiqi right then and there. She casually drops the bomb. She tells Meiqi that Zhidong and Mingzhu are actually biological siblings. Meiqi is hurt. She can't believe Mingzhu didn't tell her she'd found her birth parents.
New Worries for the Feng Family
A Mother-in-Law's Suspicions
Feng Meiqi goes home and tells her parents the news. Her dad, Feng Zhi, doesn't think it's a big deal. Her mom, He Lihua, immediately gets paranoid. She worries Mingzhu won't be loyal to their family anymore. She even regrets giving Mingzhu an heirloom table. He Lihua tells Meiqi to spy on Mingzhu and report back everything she does.
When Mingzhu gets home from work, her mother-in-law is waiting. He Lihua confronts her for not telling them the truth. Mingzhu tries to explain the whole complicated situation.
The episode ends with the Xu family finally getting their act together. Xu Dacheng and Yu Jingxiang get dressed up. They grab gifts and head out with Zhidong to finally meet Bichen's parents.
